    does this help......

    butter: ingredients 100% milk fat

Stork SB – A soft margarine Ingredients Composition/100g
    Vegetable Oils
    Hydrogenated Vegetable oils

    Water
    Whey
    Salt
Emulsifiers: Mono- and Di- Glycerides (E471)
    Lecithin (E322)
    Flavourings
    Vitamin E
    Colour: Natural Carotenes (E160a)
    Vitamins A & D

The bit in red, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil : It sounds harmless enough, but it is one of the most dangerous products ever to be mashed into the food we eat. Banned in Denmark, the rest of Europe needs to follow.

Can I ask where you found this information? I have just got a tub of Stork out of my fridge and checked the ingredients list and it does not mention Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (it does say Vegetable Oils, but doesn't specifically mention 'hydrogenated).

I have been using Stork for years, my Mum used it too. I do a lot of baking, but don't want to use anything with trans fats. I think I will email Stork and see what they have to say.....I will report back!

  • Thanks for all your replies :o)

Well I did my weekly shop this evening and I got one pack of basics unsalted butter and a pack or mr t's stork equivalent (was wrapped like butter though!)

So I am going to try both on different recipes and see what goes down best.

I did cook some brownies yesterday but was out of butter and found a recipe using vegetable oil, and they were yummy and my boys ate them all last night! luckily I had managed to hide some away in the freezer!
