First Time Buyer in Scotland (Solicitor?)

Hi, ive never had a mortgage before nor have i ever had any kind of dealings with a solicitor, what i would like to know is when do i get a solicitor involved?

Right now i have a deposit and have a MIP from HSBC which is just a bit of paper the website told me to print saying how much they might lend me, dont know if it counts for much? Ive saw a house i like and would now like to view it, if i liked it would i need to have a solicitor to put an offer in for me or can i do that myself or is it best to get one involved from the start like right now?

And if all went well how long does the whole porcess usualy take from offer accepted unitl keys in hand?

Thanks

Probably best to get some quotes from solicitors just now and get them involved from the start. Your solicitor will put the bid in, and will give you advise on what to do, and when.

As for how long it takes, it depends on whether the present owner has bought somewhere else or not. When you view, ask what date they think they'll work towards - the sets of solicitors work out the entry dates between them.

When i get a solicitor does he/she more or less take over and sort it all out or will i have other involvment apart from agreeing price and getting a mortgage arranged, also how much should i expect to pay a solisitor when buying a house worth approx £120k would £1000 cover it or more?

Ive read a little of the S1 website thanks :D i will read more later tonight.

I last purchased 10 years ago so any information regarding costs/recommendations would be really out of date. I used my local GSPC solicitor who was on Crow Road and he was great as he took me through each stage. Ask friends/colleagues or maybe just drop into a couple to get a free quote?

I am currently going through this as a first time buyer.

My total solicitors fees are £3500 (including stamp duty) and all other legal and conveyancing costs. I think the solicitor fee itself is only £450 but the total legal fees outwith come to £3500.

Could you tell me how the rest of the cost is made up? Is that for all the searches etc or is the cost of the stamp duty included in that?

I thought i was doing well budgeting £1000 just to be on the safe side lol, i wont have the stamp duty problem though due to the price (i think?)
