Council Tax, Baliffs and Repayment Plans

Hi, I'm unsure if I am posting on the board and appologise if I'm not.
Ok to cut a long story short, we fell behind with our Council Tax after my husband was made redundant, he has since got another job and we are starting to pay off some of our debts but last week received a liability order for over due councilo tax.
When we rang the baliffs last night they wouldnt accept any form of payment except in full and said they would send someone round to take an inventory and authorise walking possession.
Today we contacted the council direct and offered them a repayment plan which we cna afford to repay which they have accepted. BUT we have to pay this to the baliff company. We have made the first payment tonight online as conveniently when we tried to call them make the payment there offices had closed (15 mins before stated closing time) and we were concerned if we didnt make a payment tonight then we would have defaulted before we had even started.
Could anyone tell me what powers the baliffs now have as in can they still turn up and levy our car even though we have entered into a payment plan with the council and have made a first payment.
Incredibly worried about all of this, every time we seems to take one step forward it feels like we are taking ten back. I have just been diagnosed with a disability and all this is making me very sick with the stress and worry.
If anyone can help I would be so grateful, thank you in advance.

If the council have accepted your offer, you should be fine. Just e-mail a letter to both the council and the bailiff, making sure they're both aware that they are BOTH receiving the same letter, confirming the details of your repayment, as agreed by Mr X at the council. Then, if they bother you again, contact the council with the details of whomever is harassing you.0

Dont panic - and don't let them in. They're not going to levy on your car for a first payment that was a couple of hours late. Just deny them entry if they ask and keep up the payment plan."There is no substitute for time."

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. Have been feeling sick over all this. Am I right in thinking that now we have entered into this repayment plan, then unless we default we shouldnt have any visits from the baliffs at all? Thank you0

Absolutely right. They shouldn't bother you ever again, except perhaps for a letter confirming the repayment plan. But like I said previously, do e-mail both the council and them to confirm, it will give you extra confidence in knowing that everyone knows what's what.0
