Please can anyone recommend a suitable cookery book for my DD. She is 15 and I would like to get her a book that covers the basics of cooking.
I am rubbish at cooking to my shame, and I would really like to give my kids more experience in the kitchen as I think being able to cook a decent meal is a life skill that every one should master. DH collects celebrity cookery books (a whole shelf of Jamies!!) which he sometimes uses, but I would like to get an up to date, current book that covers the skills she will need in the future. (who knows, I might be inspired too!)
Many thanks.

It's not a new one but even as an experienced cook i love my Delia, how to cook, covers everything from boiling an egg, ageless and well used xxI will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -
Delia's How to Cook - no idea how much it costs but it's pretty good. It covers lots of thing from store cupboard to Christmas cake0

Another vote for Delia. If you follow her recipes to the letter you are almost guaranteed good results. Alternatively a good student cookbook might be appropriate especially if she is hoping to go to uni in the next few years and wants cheap, nutritious food.
I think there are also tutorials on youtube which show basic techniques. Your daughter might find these useful too.0 -
There is a new Gordon Ramsay out which covers all the basic skills but is more up to date than Delia. I did find Delia helpful when I was starting out 25 years ago but I hardly ever refer to it now and the recipes in it are quite dated now (chicken and grapes and that kind of thing). The Ramsay one is bang up to date with dishes she is probably eating already (pasta dishes, pizzas, vegetarian main meals, pizzas, etc)

i bought this one recently from the book people, it covers the basics and has some really nice recipes in it

I'd also suggest having a look at theis page of student cook books

I like the Alistair Williams one, but they all have simple recipes, some budget advice, and are aimed at someone only a little older than your daughter0 -
Another vote for a student book - aimed at young people, and you could have fun together trying things out x0
