Wanted : bose.co.uk free delivery - please!

Apparently Bose have issued free delivery coupons/vouchers in various magazines, although I don't know which ones? Has anyone encountered these, or have any coupons for free delivery?

Many thanks in advance!

Not mail order but McArther Glen Outlet villages with BOSE outlet shops offer the current products at reduced prices, if you can travel it might be worth checking these shops out first.

Have you been onto lowestontheweb.com They sell a Creative stereo. I purchased one purely on reviews when I was going to by a bose system. It is a brilliant system and best of all I paid less than 200 pounds for it to be delivered. The other 200 is in my back pocket still!!! lol

....would be to look at products from manufacturers other than Bose.

Unless the product you want has a particular feature or style that you must have and is only available from Bose, then there are many alternatives to products with the Bose badge on.

Bose has always been at the expensive end of the consumer electronics market and works hard to command premium prices. Their strategy is to market their products in expensive showrooms, use advertising targeted at the (non-technical) general public in Sunday colour supplements, and offer interest free credit.

If you want good sound quality then there are other manufacturers to consider - Bose is a "lifestyle product", not hi-fi. Bose has little presence in the professional audio market: They've made some PA speakers that you might find in a bar or small club, some outdoor speakers for football stadiums, and lots of ceiling speakers for shopping malls. But Bose products rarely feature where high quality sound is required.

If you want products such as noise cancelling headphones then look at alternatives from companies like Audio-Technica, Sony or Sennheiser. They may not have been promoted so prominently in the Sunday glossy supplements, but all of these manufacturers have a long history of headphone design and produce products that are significantly less expensive than Bose. For example the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 is under £100 compared with £280 for the Bose QC3.

Above all audition the product and audition the alternatives. If you like it, and having the "Bose" badge means something positive to you, then that's fine. But do remember Bose are very good at telling a high technology story in words that appeal to the general public, and also remember you will be paying for those glossy ads, expensive shops, and that interest free credit somewhere in the deal.

Above all make your own mind up. Don't be swayed by the salesman, the adverts, or indeed me!
  • Thanks to all for their posts. As a bit of background, I am looking to get the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Noise Cancelling Headphones (not the latest Qc3's see below)

@sylm_2000, I did try amazon, but they are selling the phones for more than bose is!

@spendingmad, I did consider this option, but the nearest store is about a 100 mile round trip. Should they give discounts on brand new (not factory reconditioned products) is this worth the petrol to get there?! Plus should I not be happy with it and want to return it (within their 30 day money back policy) would I need to drive back there to return it?

@BigSky, Wow long post! I do agree with what you are saying, since I've never been a big fan of bose myself. I have been looking around at noise cancelling phones for ages and keep returning to the bose ones. I guess one of the problems is that I don't like the 'super-aural' style of the Audio-Technica (or the Qc3's), the ones that just 'sit' on your ears. The phones have to be the whole enclose your ear type, which does restrict your options somewhat in the noise cancelling department. From all the research and reviews I've read bose keeps coming up tops for cutting out noise such as aeroplane engines, and computer fan/etc noise which will be its primary function. I have considered many other options and the £225 for the bose is a bit , but it still looks like the best goods. Bose is charging £10 for delivery which is a bit steep I think, especially paying out the £225 - hence the ask!

I have just learnt about the Sennheiser PXC 450 - looks good but at £245 is even more expensive than the Bose 2!
