    Hi :hello:

Please don't worry too much - you've now started your journey to becoming debt-free.

I'm also 25, retrained last year to be a teacher. I've got lots more debt than you (see my signature!). It's not a tit-for-tat comment, I just want to help you see that you are one of many, many people in this situation.

You will have no problems what-so-ever regarding finding a job, even if you are declared bankrupt. I was not credit-checked at all.

Keep smiling poppet - concentrate on your new career!

    smilealot :rolleyes2

P.S. Please be careful though, the bursary doesn't go far - especially if you live in London, as your proposed starting salary suggests.

  • Thanks everyone, I just needed to know that there was light at the end of the tunnel!

Felt ok last night, got home from work, had a nice bath and read until I fell asleep. Not usual!

Have decided to sell my car, as I can use the money from it to pay off the smaller niggling debts and it will definitely reduce my weekly expenses. A travelcard is only £57 a month here, I was paying that in petrol alone.

With regards to the teaching, I'll be teaching a shortage subject, so will get the £9000 bursary. In addition to that I've also applied for a grant and student loan, and should (touchwood) be entitled to the max amount (around £6000), so, financially I should be better off next year than I am now. Odd.

Wow - you're lucky! (Sorry, nothing personal at all, I'm just bitter about the timing of when I went into teaching... first year not to get my £18,000 student loans repaid and didn't get grants etc). I trained as a maths teacher and got £7000 full stop. It was really tight, and it made my debt situation a lot worse, but you should be okay with £15,000 tax and NI free.

    Good luck with it all!

I just want everything to be sorted and to know where I am. Seems ages away.
