Softening Cotton

Has anyone got any ideas on how to soften up a heavy cotton judo jacket. It's made of double weave cotton a bit like thick roller towel material. It's black so I can' do anything that would fade it.

In olden days urine was used to soften clothes,you could try that.Although it may pong a bit.

You could try leaving it out on the line in the rain. Although you may have to wait a while for some rain to come along, it's been very dry here.0
