  • I've tried WW for the first time, and I'm seriously disillusioned. It makes no damn sense. I can eat bananas forever and get no points, but other things (with higher protein, lower fat, and higher fibre) have points. And I'm not putting that lo-cal cooking spray near me for anyone. That's poison in a can!! Don't get me wrong, if I stick to it I lose weight... but it would be very easy to eat a diabolical diet on it and lose weight. I'm sure it would be healthier to just stay fat and eat properly!

WW teach you to count calories, not lose weight sensibly and properly.

    Bear with me.

Not all calories are created equal. Your body will do so much more with 500 calories from meat, fish, veg and fruit than it will with 500 calories from chocolate cake. It will help build muscle, which in turn burns more calories and is tighter than fat.

With WW, you can eat half a pizza and 2 chocolate muffins a day...you'll lose weight, but you certainly won't be healthy.

  • I lost nearly 1 stone with Weight Watchers following the old point system in 2009. I was a size 10 when I started so didn't have much to lose hence only losing a stone. I did cook meals from scratch as I do anyway but found I was eating alot of processed foods (ryvita, philidelphia and as I was a snack-a-holic I'd have "diet" crisps and WW bars, WW's bagels and bread, WW hot chocolates, jellies and diet drinks). I was eating alot of artificially sweetened foods and using Splenda in hot drinks.

I ended up in hospital with breathing difficulties after a relatively harmless virus that I couldn't fight off. When I looked back, my immune system seemed to have started breaking down after being on WW's for several weeks. Sure, I chose the foods I ate but these were all things promoted in meetings by leaders and other members! I realised that my diet was not all that healthy.

I tried going back (and not using any "diet" products!) last year but lost no weight on the ProPoints system. I actually tried it twice but the weight wouldn't shift. I don't think its that healthy a system.

Now I'm just avoiding eating junk, plain and simple. Eating unprocessed, natural foods and have switched to herbal teas rather than milky sugary teas and lattes. Instead of crisps, if I'm genuinely hungry I'll have a handful of nuts (unsalted pistachios or almonds) or healthy popcorn. Instead of biscuits or sweets, I'll have fruit. I'll have a square of good quality dark chocolate if I fancy.

I allow myself something I fancy as and when but on a daily basis my eating habits have dramatically changed. I'm at the point where I don't even care about weightloss that much. I feel much healthier eating this way. Whats the point of being skinny and unhealthy?
