My DS had terrible acne. Had topical antibiotics which helped, then oral antibiotics for about two years. Eventually specialist gave him roaccutane which worked. I know the side effects can be worrying but the only problem he had was the occasional nose bleed and dry lips. He has been spot free for five years.Sell £1500

Roaccutane is good stuff - worked for me 10 or so years ago and slightly more recently for my partner. You will have to go through all the milder options first to see if they work, then be referred to a consultant dermatologist, and it has to be monitored fairly closely (women need to be extremely careful not to get pregnant while taking it). But it's worth it IMO - it really does work.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

i was prescribed dianette as a contraceptive but also as an acne treatment (2 in 1!) but I developed DVT. there was no definite link but this was one of the side effects listed on the information leaflet and Dr did admit this may have been partly to blame.
i would definitely go down the route of trying some of the ph neutral facial washes, and make sure you dont use makeup with oil in. I use Mac StudioFix foundation which is powder to foundation with no oil and I find this to be a lifesaver as I used to have to redo my makeup at lunchtime due to v oily skin.
at the moment I use Simple facewash- the blue one for oily skin- and I use one of those facial buffers too. My skin has calmed down since I hit my late 20s so I guess i am one of the lucky ones, but hope the above points help anyway.Car Boot Queen!!

I used MSM and garlic capsules from Holland and Barrett.
I had acne from the ages of 11-20! I only used MSM and garlic when I was 20!
I cleanse, tone and MOISTURISE twice a day as well.
I tried all the antibiotics and harsh chemical treatments and they did not work for me when I was under.DEBTFREE AND PROUD!!0 -

I tried all the methods too spend lots of money on expensive creams, I started acupuncture a year ago and I now hardly ever get any spots at all, if I do they go in a day or two, if you can find a good Chinese doctor they really will help you out with your acne.0

Diet can play a big part in helping acne. Improving the diet, getting far more soluble fibre to assist removal of waste products and hormones. Insoluble fibre to assist the bacteria in your gut which will improve your immune function and that can help.
Taking some natural yoghurt might also be helpful. Stress on your immune system can be a factor which affects the skin function. Look at your irises, at the outside near the whites. If there is a thick dark outline around the rim, it indicates poor skin function, possibly caused by some form of stress, either emotional, or a physical stress on the body from a problem with digestive function. Poor kidney Qi/Chi tends to adversely affect skin function.
It might be worth trying some Glucomannan powder, start slowly with a 1/4 level tsp in a very large glass of water, preferably not tap water. Let it stand for 30 to 45 mins to check how it firms up, give it a good stir and add more water so it's fairly loose. It will loosen you up so be aware of that and don't over do it.
You can get it in capsule form which might be easier if you are out the house. However the powder would give better control of dosage. As a sort of side effect, it can help with weight loss and cholesterol levels.
I have recently started taking Glucomannan myself, I got mine from JGSupplements.0
