Urgent Mortgage Help

All,
If anyone could advise I'd very much appreciate it.
We have recently had a decision in principal come through from Coventry BS, with credit check already completed and on file.
I've just had a warning from Credit expert that HSBC have put a late payment on my current account, it is for a returned direct debit. I am in the process of asking this to be removed as goodwill.
Will this stop the decision in principal becoming a mortgage offer or is it unlikely for my credit file to be checked again???
Any help would be much appreciated as I am now very very very worried.
Thanks

Full credit check is performed on submission of mortgage application. Initial one will only be soft. May take some weeks for the default to be removed from your record (if HSBC agree).0

In my experience, a soft search at the outset is an exception, rather than the rule.
Normally, a lender carrying out a full search at AIP stage will not carry out a further search automatically at full application as long as the data given at AIP is not altered at full application.
I can't speak for the Coventry however, as I haven't used them for a long while.I am a mortgage broker. Is it possible to check whether it's hard or soft at AIP stage? I was under the impression it wasa hard check.
