I'm in a similar position and I have qualifications all the way up to masters degree level!

Work generally is pretty rubbish, whatever level!

    Anyway, that's not my point.

Tomorrow morning I have a free appointment with the local careers office. I'm hoping they'll help me to decide what I want to do. Is this something you could get access to? In Wales, where I am, it's a national body that provides the service. I'm not sure about England. Maybe someone else can advise?

why dont you go see a careers advisor or look at online careers website? Once you work out what you want to be, see what qualifications you need for that career and find out if there is any funding available

Try the National Careers Service. I have recently been using their website and it does have some useful things on there. I have also used them today (yesterday ?) to help me bring my CV up to date and the lady who met me at the Jobcentre was really pretty knowledgable and helped a lot.

presumably you like doing something - maybe gaming, playing football or whatever. Whatever it is, this is your third category. You could try to find training in say game software writing, or working at a football ground. Whatever you enjoy doing, try to get involved professionally - then, you never know you might end up enjoying your work.

I know a woman who liked making candles at home to get rid of the smell of her cats - now she got a candle shop
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, then perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away. thoreau

*could you work somewhere that plays music, like in a factory or something as you could listen to music while working?

*promoter for a music place/arena (they do merchandise, selling tickets and stuff. Depends where you live really but I know around here Nottingham Arena was advertising the other week)

If you really don't want to work then you have to come to the realisation that you *need* to work in order to earn the money to do the things that you do enjoy. And then you find a job that you can tolerate and you do something in your spare time that you really enjoy. Maybe music evening courses or form a group or suchlike. In all truth it's what most people do, be it they join the local darts team or take up cycling. Whatever it is, it makes life worthwhile again.
