If you are happy with vanilla pods similar to supermarket quality ones the the extract grade are the cheapest option @ £3.50 for 20 pods or £7.50 for 50 pods.

I use Madagascan Vanilla on ebay, 20 grade A vanilla pods £2.79 + 90p postage. They're quick and efficient and the pods are great. I use them to make my own vanilla essense. I bought edible lavendar last time and its fab in shortbread. x0

Thanks to all for the posts on vanilla pods. I have just ordered 20 from Vanilla Mart. I would never have thought they would be cheaper on line.0

I'm bumping this thread to say that I've bought 20 of the mid-range Indian ones for £5.50 (27.5p per pod), and that I'm very impressed and satisfied.
They come in vacuum packs of 5. The pods are large, moist and sticky, not like the small, dried ones you get in a supermarket for £2.55 each. I won't name and shame the make, but you do get a nice jar, though.
PS. I've made some vanilla ice cream with one. See post 13906 on the OS forum, "What are you having for dinner? thread. Again, infinitely better than the last batch, made with a supermarket one. I cut it in half, then lengthways, and I got more seeds out of each quarter than the entire supermarket pod.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?
