hi everyone, i have been reading your posts for a while now, however it is only now that i can build up the courage to actually post my thread, feeling so asshamed
my situation is making my life so miserable, but hey here goes i want to make big changes but feel stuck in this rut
my OH job situation has been fairly irregular for around 5 years now - he was subcontractor in construction which was in decline for a few years he then secured a different full time job but was then made redundant last summer after only 18months steady employment. we have managed to build up credit card and loan debts, we have tried to keep on top of them and have never missed any payments - but this cant go on for much longer. i work part time, we have 2 teenagers
our outgoings are much more than incomings, we have a mortgage but on interest only was supposed to be with the view to overpay and then apply for repayment. we are not entitled to any jobseekers allowance because even though my OH has been paying full NI in his last employment they look at the year previous when he was paying a lower NI contribution which only covers SSP ?? can't get much help from them apart from council tax benefit and some child tax benefit
not sure what to do - we have 5 c/card between us amount to £15k all on 0%at the moment - 2 car loans £18k total - also ODraft is 3k have had help from family but feel so guilty and worry about paying them back, sorry this is so long, any help will be so appreciated:( thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Well done for taking the first step and writing about your money problems.
You've perhaps seen this on other threads but really the best starting point is to work out exactly what your situation is in black and white - and we recommend the statement of affairs calculator. That will show how much more you have going out a month than coming in and detail your debts etc
This is the SoA calculator link - http://www.stoozing.com/msoc/soacalc.phpA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi Jenny.
Welcome
and well done for wanting to deal with your problems, it's a tremendous first step to take and can be very daunting. However bad you feel now, I can promise that you won't feel as desperate in a couple of days ....... I know that's a big promise to make but everyone on here is so supportive you will soon start to feel a little less worried and a bit more confident.
Don't feel ashamed. We have all been there. You don't have to feel ashamed for making a few bad choices and I'm sure they were done with the best of intentions for you and your family.
I'm fairly new to all this myself so don't know how good I'm going to be on the practical help side of things.
Can you make the minimum repayments or is that not possible ? If you are able to post your SOA (statement of affairs ) on here it can every helpful. Not just for you to write everything down and see where it is going but also for others to see areas where you may be able to cut back or make savings.
One thing I would definately say is do NOT be tempted by a payday loan..not now, not ever. So many threads on here are testament to the misery they cause.0 -
thank you so much for speedy replies i am going to get my paperwork and do the SOA now0
