Does anyone have any experience of photobooth rental companies in Surrey? In terms of friendliness to guests, photo quality, hidden extras, and so on?

Hi there.
Have you thought about doing a diy photo booth? You can buy kits on ebay, or make props yourself.
For the cameras you could use a digital camera on a tripod with a printer or buy second hand/borrow Polaroid instant cameras.
You could totally personalise it all this way and it costs a fraction of the price. If you do gave a bit of cash you can get a 'backdrop' online (google photo booth backdrop) i saw some nice ones for 90 pounds.

Hi Rivergold. I'm sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience with your old supplier.

I think the key phrase here is "...easy mechanism" and the answer to that is unfortunately no.

You've paid upfront despite not having a signed contract, nor a copy of the terms & conditions. Therefore you've really no clue what the contract says. Or more importantly you cannot prove either way that he breached the contract.

Personally I'd suggest you file this away under "lucky I got my money back" and find another supplier. Which region are you in? I know some reputable local ones I can recommend if you are in the midlands area.
