What to do with Rib-eye...

Options
I have a pack of 5 rib-eye steaks in the freezer, weighing 9oz each steak. I want to get them used as they are taking up,space in the freezer. Myself and DH will eat two of them but I'm wondering what to do with the other three. I have to defrost to the whole pack so will need to use them within a few days of being defrosted. DH did suggest doing something in the slow cooker but I don't know quite what....

  • Don't waste a good ribeye in the slowcooker, I'd happily eat it three days running (i like it even more than fillet) Quick fry or grill, served still pink works best, such a tender cut... if you don't want to eat it for days on end slam it hard on the worktop to seperate, re-wrap and stick the others back in the freezer...enjoy, i just bought one organic one this morning and it cost me £7!
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56

Sems a bit of a waste cooking a premium cut like rib-eye in the slow cooker. Cut it into strips and make steak diane or another stir-fry type dish. You could then freeze it again after cooking and only needs defrosting and heating up.

Served with homemade wedges and salad - now wishing I had some steak in the freezer

I would separate the steaks whilst frozen or when slightly defrosted, repack into separate plastic bags and put three back in the freezer.

Ideally I would have frozen them separately but DH got to the pack first!
I agree with not wanting to slow cook it, and I do like rib-eye, trouble is I'm just not enough of a meat eater to eat it three days running!

Thanks for the tips, sounds good! :D

I would eat it three days running too...but serve it very differently. Argentinian style steak......Chimmichurri and salad then French stlyle maybe with saut!s and creamed spinach and then as part of a yummy steak sandwich with the last one.

This is, IMO, the very nicest cut of steak. Perfect flavour with out sacrificing much tenderness.

If it went in the freezer fresh you could probably have a day off and come back to it?

agree with the others - don't sacrifice it to SC - would be worse than chucking it!!

Stroganoff and Tagliata would be my ways of having steak without feeling like you have a great wodge of meat on your plate

You could do fajitas for the second night too. With chargrilled veg you wouldn't notice too much meat IYKWIM
