Being Chased For Old Loan

Hello, I have just had a phone call from a company saying that they have had my debt passed to them from Direct Line. They asked for me by name and said where they were calling from and asking me personal questions. When I said that I did not know what this was in connection with they passed me through to someone else who said as I had answered all the security questions (I had not answered any) he could tell me that they debt from Direct Line had been passed to them and they required full payment. They were called Allied something and all had Scottish accents. To be truthfully honest I had forgotten all about this loan as I have been moved for 6 years and the loan was taken out in 1998. The guy on the phone was getting really snotty when I was asking questions eg how much and said that if I did not pay it all now then I would go to court and get a CCJ to which I replied then that is what will have to happen as I know nothing about it. Any advice?

Ok , dont worry, just take this one step at a time. This sound very much like an old trick of where ur loan has been pasted to a 3rd party who buys it for a fraction of the price. Just to name a few Mackenzie Hall, ...

Read through this thread 1st and take some of the advice of it. Bear in mind , certain debts get cancelled after a certain time period (i think 6 yrs) .. these then get passed onto to these companies who try and retrieve some of the money back through various guises, lying ... intimidation ..etc..
just do a search for Mackenzie Hall and you will get an idea of what they are like , Mackenzie Hall are based in scotland as well .
Hope this helps.

Many thanks - they were just soooo rude on the phone with their threats. TBH I am not really worried about going to court to pay as I went about 15 years ago with a car loan and the court was fairer than the credit company and they did not want me to pay more than I could afford and so I ended up paying a lot less than I thought.0

Following on.... a guy phoned again from Allied and asked me security questions to which I replied I would not as I do not have any dealings with the company etc. I told hime that someone had called before and I knew nothing about a loan etc and he said that is why it had been passed to him and that I had better pay up! He was ruder than the last person and I told him that I would record the conversation and he said some choice words and hung up! What can I do to get them off my back? I phoned the CAB and they said that the loan was 'spent' as it was too old - Statue Limitations or something and not to admit to anything (which I have not done). They told me to quote the 1970 act which I will do if they ever phone again. Do they just keep on?!0

no thye give up eventualy - just keep saying you know nothing about it and quote the 1970 act saying if you do find the right person they still don't have to pay.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Today I received a letter from a solicitors called Casey & Co demanding payment, threatening baliffs etc with a reference number etc. It said it was re Natwest Card Services. I have only recently had a NW card so phoned them up with the 'Natwest' cc number and they said that number does not exist. I explained the situation and asked them to check under my maiden name and previous adress if I owed them anything (apart from my current card). They said I owed them nothing and they would not give me a card if I owed them money from another one.
I called AIC and spoke to the guy on the letter and gave him their reference number and he said it was with regards to a kitchen company!? I said that it did not state that on the letter and gave him the NW reference and told him I had called them and they had confirmed I owe them nothing. I asked him to check his records again and he tapped away and said that he cannot see where I owe anything. I mentioned the phone calls and basically he apologised and said it was nothing to do with me!:mad:0
