On my current plan I have two options. I've worked out to my repayment plan I will be MF by 40 (currently 29) on the house we're currently in and if we stay here the plan will be to fill our sons ISA's every year and have a few great holidays.
We're also looking at upgrading. With our current repayments/OPs we could go from a £140k house into a £220k house with the same monthly payments at the same rate in 4.5 years. This is something my wife wants to do and I would like to think we could find our forever home for that amount. We could go from a 3 bed terrace with a tiny third bedroom into a 4 bed detached for that
I'm thinking plan 2 is more likely but i'll pay this one down as quick as possible so our new mortgage will give us a great LTV.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Became mortgage free in October last year, aged 39
Still have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure its not just a dream! What we had achieved finally sunk in last month when we were sitting on the beach in the Canaries (Fuerteventura), blue skies 24°C and a cold beer.
Going back for another week in May, then its Vegas/New York in October.
In the meantime its nice just sitting back and watching the savings increase.

Oh, bless. I'm obviously coming across as younger on the page:p
If I tell you I've got 20 years before state retirement (currently) that'll give you a more accurate picture
What "life" has taught me (the hard way, I'm afraid), is that it can all turn on a sixpence. The only certainty is uncertainty...and being prepared for anything to fall out of the sky is a lot better than not being prepared....
If only I'd been so wise all those years ago :rotfl:I'm completely in awe of what we manage to achieve on this forum. :T0 -

It would be nice to have a year of spending what the hell I want instead of living frugally! But I think it is so inbred in me that I will still not like spending silly. I will always look for the best price in whatever I buy.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

I understand exactly what you mean. In the past, I must have done that without even thinking about it as I never had money at the end of a month - always spent my income, no savings etc. Never overdrawn, but never thought "What If....?"
But it would be crazy to let all this hard work go...I will still shop around, shop in the sales etc. It's my money until I spend it, and more savings mean more options available to me re work/hrs etc/freedom/holidays/early retirement.
Oops...starting to wish my life away....:rotfl:0 -
