You have an agenda, we get that. Maybe posting useful advice would be better.

I was empathising with the original poster, who initially thought only a fraudster would attempt to raise a tax bill for JSA that she could not possibly have earned since she was working.

Empathy. Along with commonsense, this would be a useful change to see in HMRC.

I too have had this problem I claimed in 2010/11 but not 2011/12 and they are saying I owe tax on £1950 JSA even though I didnt claim in the tax year 11/12. I contacted DWP who said I wasnt on their system any more so I cant prove I didnt recieve JSA for 11/12 am now waiting for a letter from DWP so will have to see what it says in that before i can contact HMRC!

The letter will simply confirm no benefit was paid in 2011/12. Once you have that forwards it to HMRC and they will re-reconcile the year.
