Just wondered if there are any brides on here who are wearing saree for their big day?

I don't have extended family to help me and my folks idea of a 'bridal' saree is ummmm, how do I say this nicely? 'of it's time.'

I want something really simple but on the one shopping trip I did to see what my budget would get me, I seemed to only find what I would never wear. My day to day style is simple and classical.

The only solution offered so far is to wear a lengha (there are more choices apparently). However, the saree is traditional to my fmaily and the only Indian thing I'm doing. So it's really important to me that it's a saree not a lengha or anything else. This seems largely to fall on deaf ears though, even with my friends :mad::mad:

Anyone got any advice please? Is there an website that can guide me? I need help in understanding different materials and what would drape nicely over curves etc etc.

I'm getting deparate! :(

  • hi timpu, i totally understand how u feel about wanting to wear something that is traditional to you, i loved the idea of a white dress but to me it just would not feel like my wedding without wearing a lenga (as we traditionally do) as i would miss out on that bridal look i have grown up seeing and your wedding is your one chance to have it.

would help to know whereabouts your located or how far you willing to travel? and what is your max budget?

My cousin-in-law wore a white sari at their civil ceremony here and looked completely stunning. She had a red one for their hindu ceremony in India afterwards.

I thought it was a really lovely way to combine the 2 cultures.

Its so hard trying to mix your culture and and any "modern/western" ideas that you love.

A friend of mine went traditional for the ceremony, and then had a western big white dress for the evening reception.

Good luck, I cant help you with any ideas on where to look. Hope you find something you are comfortable with and will feel fab in on your wedding day. x

Here's a pic from a wedding I went to recently.

    It was a Hindu wedding.

The bride wore a white wedding dress for the registry office part and then changed into this for the Hindu ceremony, then back into the white wedding dress for the party.
