in Cutting tax
Dh is self employed, I'm reading about mileage and wonder if I could claim claim this ? He occasionally used our car and we pop diesel through but nothing for wear and tear?
Also, can he claim for using home as his office?
He does quotes, orders materials etc?
Also anything else I could be missing that I put through?
I put telephone, Internet through and stamps, stationary etc

I ran a small business for 7 years alongside my job (PAYE) and never paid tax in those years, I somehow managed to work it out on paper that I made a loss every year
Spares for car and insurance as long as they are proportionate to use (I used to claim 40% use for business)
I put through a new computer every 3 years for business (had access to a receipt)
I also put through a certain amount of clothing and shoes as business.0 -
You can claim a percentage of household bills if DH is using a room in your house as an office, also general repairs, etc.
There is some useful information on the self-assessment pages of the HMRC website, it's worth going through them to see what you can offset against the year's revenue.
Hope that helpsThe time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time

Talk to an accountant. This is one of the main reasons that they exist!! They will tell you what you can claim/not claim. And there may be some surprises (good and bad).No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
