Rescuing dress

Not sure I'm on the right board.
Last week I wore my new dress in work. Unbeknown to me the underside of the desk was rough and my new dress got snagged a lot on the desk.

I thought the dress had a woven pattern but it has a pattern that is printed on the fabric. In order to rescue it I need to paint dark blue die on to the pulled threads. Has anyone done this? Got any top tips on what to and not to do?

This will depend on where the damage is and how noticeable it is. But a permanent marker pen can do wonders if you can find one in the right colour

Thanks Lazy Daisy. The pulls have resulted in exposedthreads in off white.

  • Would you be able to pull those snags back through to the inside of the fabric? Slightly less drastic than marker-pens etcetera

Have you tried 'wiggling' the fabric to try to tease out the pulls a bit?

Sorry haven't much more help to offer than that :( - but Good Luck with it!
  • Could you post a photograph of the damaged fabric?

    (Might help with suggestions).

I would do a test with any dye or marker pen etc on a "hidden" area of the dress before using on the front area, just in case!

Can't wiggle the thread through. The fabric has been printed on and webbing applied to the back. Trying to work out how to post a photo from the phone's gallery.

Oh no! I feel your pain - I wear trousers all the time for work now as got so fed up with getting my opaque tights snagged on the rough underside of my desk.

Sometimes just washing a garment can ease the threads back into place if they are not too long

Try pushing a needle through eye end first from the wrong side of the fabric right underneath the snag. Thread the eye of the needle with the snag and pull through. If the snag is short to do this - loop a piece of sewing cotton through the loop of the snag and then thread the sewing cotton through the needle and pull through

Will the fabric ladder if you just snip the snags off?

Could you hand bead over the snags to disguise them and add a bit of beading to other parts of the garment to blend IYKWIM

Have you brought the damage to the attention of your employer? If you show them the damage and point out where on the desk it snagged - they may offer compensation . . . . or to sort the desk out at the very least

My employers attitude is that they don't compensate for damaged clothing.
However Next have come up trumps and given me a refund voucher for the dress.
