New business, when is tax return due?

Hi, I started a business in May 2012, do i need to do a tax return before the end of Jan 2013??

No. If you are a sole trader or partnership your first trading period will be from May 12 to 5 April 13 / 31 March 13 - HMRC accept 31 Mar accounts as if they were 5 April. The self-employment pages of this tax return will be due for submission by 31 Jan 14.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0

Assuming you are a sole trader ? Have you signed up for the weekly deduction called Class 2 National Insurance ?
If not why not?
It should be the flag that gets you sent a self assessment tax return to complete.0
