Rip off shops!!!

Is it illegal for shops to sell things at ridiculously high prices?

Halfords sell T-cut for £8.99 when its only £3 most other places. This really infuriated me as Halfords sorta hold a monopoly on car/bike things in our town.

I managed to get the things cheaper elsewhere but halfords was literally 3 times the price on some things.

I feel like complaining but i dont know if Im just being silly. It just angers me that people are being ripped off by shops like that.

I know what you mean, it is frustrating, but its all down to supply and demand... and the profit of the shop!! People must be willing to pay that price or they wouldn't be able to charge it! It's not illegal !

Why trading standards - they are flogging stuff at marked prices - your choice whether to shop there or not (and it's a lot more than £3 on fleabay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/T-CUT-COLOUR-FAST-PAINT-RESTORER-POLISH-500ML_W0QQitemZ160114513817QQcmdZViewItem )

Even if its something as small as hand-wash i will look in a few shops to see who has the best deal before buying the stuff where i can get it cheapest

Unfortunately most people in this country don't and will just get most things in the one shop

I wouldn't buy t cut any how as the poundland equivalent is ok although it does take more elbow grease to get the shine

  • halfords price match any shops within 15 miles of that store.
also if u fancy a new mp3/CD car stereo buy max power mag. take it to Ur local halfords and show them the stereo which they have in stock and also displayed in the mag. if the mail order company shop is within 15 miles halfords normaly price match. most times the mail order price is upto £100 cheaper than halffords. and you dont have to wait a week to get it from the mail order company.

its not illegal. If you have a tinof beans getting sold at 30p in one store but £30 in another - it just means people wont buy them i the more expensive store.

also - some "cheap" stores dont buy the items in teh UK - so they are forign imports, meaning they might not be the real deal - thus the cheap price

I would have thought shops had some moral obligation to not make obscene profits on pretty bog standard items.

Shops like to project an image that they are the consumers best friend but in reality they are there to make money and they will charge what the market will bear.

If you've no real alternative sources then they sound like they have a captive market, except in this day of internet shopping, you should be able to get it delivered for cheaper than that.

well said. its sad of course, very. but life is only revolved around money or it around life. just buy it where its cheap.

At least think that in the early and before 90s all these shops used to dictate prices with crazy flactuations. Nobody had a choice but to buy.

Now its a lot different. They are having to conduct a lot more meetings with financial personnel/shareholders on why they are making so little money. Before the internet all my bike equipment was bought in Halfords, since then I havent set a foot in one in around 7 years.
