Keeping yeast in a fridge

Anyone know how long you can store yeast in a fridge - I got mine from Asda over a week ago, and it looks OK, but will it still be OK to use ?

Is this freash or dried?
Dried will keep for a month or two.
As for fresh - not sure. Firstly, does it smell *yeasty*? If not, it's probably past it. If it does, the way to check is to crumble some into a cup of warm milk with some sugar dissolved in it. Leave in a warm place. After 15 mins it should have a frothy head on top. If not, again, it's compost.
