I can't advise you on the driving/vehicle one, but you don't need to worry about the 'property of any value' question. It's not for general household items, which computers would come under, & certainly not for things of little/no resale value. I didn't include my desktop & put down that I'd ordered a new laptop - it wasn't even commented on. :)

You don't need to list standard versions of things like tv, microwave, etc, but if they were unusually expensive versions then yes. So a bog standard tv wouldn't need to be listed, but a plasma version would (as a friend of mine with a £2k+ plasma found out to his cost :( ), a bog standard computer wouldn't need to be, but one of those state-of-the-art jobbies that control everything in your home would. A microwave or ordinary cooker wouldn't, but a spanking new Aga costing £5k would - they'll allow you to cook for the family, but not equip yourself to run a restaurant, if you get my drift :) You're allowed to live comfortably in your home with general possessions - you just can't lie back on the 20ft long couch counting the Picassos & Monets while flicking between the channels on the 50" tv. :)

The person who receives the benefit is the one who's income it is. Like I get the CTC and CHB so that's part of my income.

And, I wouldn't list it. I'm not listing a PC I got at the begining of the year. It cost me £550 on a catalogue but it would in reality be worth about £250.

Hi all sorry for the length of this one but ive nearly finished my SOA but getting confused on the income bit as it asks what my income is and how much do other members of your household (aka my wife:D ) contribute each month to the household expenses? this is our situation im on incapacity benefit so that is obviously mine my wife works 20 hours so her wage is hers but what do they class tax credits and child tax credits as? mine, hers or joint the original claim was made in her name with me as her partner. we also have child benefit which is solely in my wife’s name so where does that one fit?
Also can also I ask your opinion on a couple of other question
3.9 Do you have the use of a motor vehicle that you do not own? As im not allowed to drive is this a no

Any other property of any value, e.g. paintings, furniture or jewellery
Is this were I put the van Goff I wish!:rotfl: But seriously im not sure what to do on this one as many have already said nearly all household stuff is excluded including computers my problem is I have four in my house and I can just see the £££ signs in OR,s eyes if I where to declare this:eek: and even though it sounds extravagant I know they are not worth much, if anything, because I built them myself out of cast of bits collected over the years from upgrading friend and family’s and my own pc and all are in desperate need of new fans seen i havnt been able to afford to change them for nearly a year and a half. Ones not even saleable as it has no covers its more of a test bed for checking components the second is my daughters who does use it a lot for school work they actually get extra marks for handing in homework printed out can you believe it? The third is a media centre which acts as my freeview box, video recorder record collection and half of my hi fi so without it I would lose virtually all my entertainment the fourth is mine which is for accounting (since a month ago:o ) internet skype answering machine etc. but more important is the data they all hold some of which is irreplaceable like all our family photos and movies of birthdays Christmas etc which is stored across all three for security (in case one blows up) and the usual private documents and other general stuff . I feel selfish for worrying about this when others here are facing losing houses and cars but its all ive got besides my pension that may be seen as valuable even though there not. Should I keep quiet and hope I don’t get visited or come clean? I would be grateful for any comment and advice thanks

    Hi bat,

child benifit is not counted as income ,but was told to put my ctc down but dont know if they take it into consideration or not ,as for listing assets, i would not put anything down unless its re sale value is going to be high .iv never known anybody get visited so you should be ok with that .

That is strange but you can nominate who it's paid to so your wife probably put you down.

Yes, it's part of your income so put it down as yours.

We put all of my benefit down, even if they are supposed to be considered in income. It still pays bills so we just stuck it all down.

If in doubt over benefit, I would put it all down on your forms.

Thanks a lot its like fitting the pieces of a jigsaw together and I hate doing jigsaws:mad: but its starting to fit together so to clarify cos I really want to get this right if I can (sorry to be a pain:o )
    1. my income is IB and CTC my wife’s is her wage, WTC and CB (sort of)
    2. You recommend putting nothing to declare in the ‘Any other property of any value, e.g. paintings, furniture or jewellery’, bit.
    3. Still unsure on car bit
If thats righ just one piece to go then:j

If you do not own a car then I would leave it off the forms.

no tight jock i have nothing to do with the car, except fixing it when she breaks it:rolleyes: , because im not allowed to drive due to my medical condition all receipts insurance HP and log book are all in my wife’s name i just get the occasional lift on the rare occasions that i go anywhere

In that case I would not even mention it as it has nothing to do with your assets .

And thanks for your good wishes.

Hi Blind...how's the SoA going? Are you tearing your hair out yet? Like the others have said, I included all the benefits I received as my income, and OH wages and WTC & CTC as his contribution. If it's any help, the figure I put for OH wages was only what he would reasonably contribute to cover the household bills..I did not put down what he actually earns.

I'm a bit fed up today :o ...can't think why though.

Hope you get the SoA sorted.:T

No good news for me Blind. I was just saying on another thread that it's been a week since my OR interview and I haven't heard anything, so I'm paranoid too. I keep looking to see if someone's watching/following me...how paranoid is that!!!!!

As regards your OH income, keep her contribution to the amount required to cover the normal household expenditure, exclude what she may or may not have been contributing to your creditors.

By the way, in my OR interview she kept asking questions about my OH, like how much he earned, did he have any debts of his own, stuff like that. So I just kept saying "I'm sorry I don't know". Maybe they're checking into his financial affairs, who knows. But my OH isn't loaded and we don't have millions stashed away, and by the sound of things neither do you. So whilst your not actually hiding anything you shouldn't feel obliged to reveal what is not relevant to your BR.

I dont believe it just when i thought id got all the pieces another hole pops up where i least expected it its in the property section regarding the details about the house we rent. Our agreemant is titled assured shorthold tenancy but the form asks is it leasehold or freehold anyone Know which it is classed as because i havnt got a clue on this one:confused: and i dont fancy ringing my landlady to find out:o

Blind, I had the same problem. I plumped for freehold cos it's a house and not a flat and I think houses are usually freehold (what the heck do I know!!!) but that's what I put and nobody questioned it.
