TIAI do try to keep up but sometimes life gets in the way.

It's also been discussed time and again over the past few hours....perhaps a quick skip back a couple of pages before asking for info?
...........and why did you require a new username to actually post that?

I know, FK but you have a reputation to keep up. Otherwise who else will the 'middle of doughnuts' try to wind up?:p0 -
Totally off topic but does anyone know if you can get help toward the travel costs to university interviews.
My daughter has three coming up in the next 2 weeks. Thank you.rhosynbach wrote: »why should highly intelligent youngsters miss out on top universitys just because there parents may not be able to afford to pay for them to travel to numerous interviews...pattylabelle wrote: »See your point - my sis is travelling over from NI on three separate dates for three interviews for her son. Because my sis goes with him all costs are doubled. She is able to turn the London one around in a day with no overnight stay. She is not short a few bob but dear love those who are because the costs are enormous........and they have to dress in something decent!!!
You could ask if the school has a fund to help with fares.
Do bear in mind that the student is going to have to make the same journey at least termly, so the costs of this will have to be met from their money. There is no extra grant or loan if you go to a university far away.
Disagree with the last point, students wear anything around campus and I doubt lecturers would penalise students who aren't dressed smart.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi Auntycaz
There should be help available from your DD's school or college. At least, there was last year when my DD was doing similar. As a result of EMA being abolished, each school is given a hardship bursary fund which they can allocate on a discretionary basis. You will probably have to complete an application form, similar to the one for EMA, to evidence household income etc, but my DDs school was very supportive and she received a bursary for assistance with "essentials to further education".
Maybe start there, but there are also all kinds of educational grants available for people on low incomes including from water companies, local charities, etc - think there is a section on MSE about it. But our schools support team put us in touch with those they felt could help my DD - they know what is available locally and nationally. There is sufficient support available to ensure that no young adult should be prevented from pursuing further education on finance grounds, but it does take a bit of form filling along the way. Good luck and also to your DD in her Uni applications x
edit - seems to still be available
