about a year ago i was in debt with moorcroft for a phone bill as i had a work acident and couldnt afford to pay it when i got the money together i phoned them up to pay it off they offerd me a settlement for £111.something pence so i told them to take the money from my account. last week i got a letter from buchanan clark and wells saying i owe this company £126.75 looked into it and its for my phone bill so i phoned the operator and they say the only money that was payed was £100 and had been passed onto another colector bcw. so i phoned moorcroft and they confirmed to me on the phone that i agreed to settle it and they took the money.so from what i can understand someone has not took the right money so the bill for £111.and something pence that i paid a hundred from has now gone to £126.75 i carnt understand how this is my fault and now i have to pay more money a year later. should i have to pay the extra or not
plz can someone help me thanks

Hi northernchris
Did you ever get anything from moorcroft at all to say that the bill had been settled?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

how have they came to £126.75? if you paid £100.0
-
That will probably be interest etc, on the £26 outstanding.
Chris - how long ago was this , have you got a bank statement showing the money leaving your bank account?
Welcome to mse by the way.... :hello:0 -

I'm not sure if this is any help, but I would write a letter to both of them explaining what happened and putting the onus back onto Moorcroft, stating that it is their error so they should sort it out without any further hassle to yourself.
Is this sort of thing covered by the financial ombudsman? If so, put in your letter that if you do not have a satisfactory response to this "most distressing" problem, then you will refer it to the ombudsman for their investigation and consideration. Perhaps this will spur them into wiping the slate clean.
Not sure if it would work, but worth a try, you will have something in writing which is always better to provide as proof than a phone call, and make sure you send them recorded delivery so they cannot say they never received them.
