White eyeliner?

Options
Hi all

I've noticed recently that my eyes look a bit blood shot as though I'm tired and the inside bottom lids are red. Do you think white eyeliner is best for this or possibly eye drops to brighten the whites of my eyes a bit?

Many thanks for any advice!

White eye liner is generally used to make your eyes look bigger.

Is there maybe a health reason for your red eyes? There are drops that make your eyes brighter. They may help.
  • Hi sweetme I'm not sure if its because I need to change my mascara as have also noticed my eyes are a bit runny at the moment. Many thanks

You may benefit from using warm/hot flannels over the eyes to unblock the eyelid ducts in case they are blocked in inflamed. This helps reduce inflamation. Also you can get eye drops and sprays that may help.

White eyeliner is just going to make you look a little weird if you have reddening around your eyes as well.

  • I'd say a quick visit to the doc if this is ongoing...

OP, are you allergic to anything? If you've had your mascara for a long time it may be an eye infection which you'll need drops or cream for.

    Hope all is well!

  • I'd echo what's been said, but I work nights and find my eyes go bloodshot and the inner rims go red very easily - I use cream/nude Rimmel Scandal'eyes eye liner - cheap and lasts a full 12.5 hr shift. Much softer and more natural looking than white.

I agree with mrcow, if your eyes are already bloodshot then applying white eye liner will make the red more obvious and would look a little odd!

It could be just down to the cold weather and feeling run down, I've noticed feeling more tired and this has also affected my skin which looks a lot drier and more dull and it is something that generally gets better with the spring and summer. Maybe look at your diet and see if your missing any nutrients like vitamin C or E or vitamin D which we get from nuts and from sunlight, as there is less sunlight (or UV light) in the winter and it's so cold that we generally don't go outside for as long it can leave you in a deficit. We can store vitamin D but only for a few weeks or 2-3 months rather then the full 6-8 months since it was last sunny! You can eat more peanuts or see your Doctor for a jab if your lacking it.

Don't forget that stress and lack of sleep can also affect your eyes, making them more bloodshot as can staring at a screen for too long so be aware of what your doing day to day too. Rest is the best way around those things.
  • nice post here.
  • Thank you everyone for your comments. Ironically my eyes were ok today and I've changed my mascara so it may have been that. I got the rimmel eyeliner today from boots so thank you for that suggestion!

Unless your eyes are small then you don't really need white or nude eyeliner. I use nude myself and then a light shimmer in corner of my eyes. But thats because I have small eyes.

If they red then its going to be because they irrated. I suffer terrible from irrated eyes. They go tired looking and puffy and red. I try not to wear mascara when possible and just line my eyes with black eyeliner and use a liquid eyeliner to gently brush over the lashes. Its the flaking of the mascara when its clumpy that makes it itchy for me. Also I do makeup and people practise on me and eyeshadow ends up in my eyes and makes them red and swell up. Some peoples eyes are just extra sensitive and so its best to buy new eye products every few weeks. Especially mascaras sure only meant to have them for 3 months anyway as bacteria gets inside very easy.

Also how are you removing your eye makeup? Normally cleanser irrates my eyes so I use a gentle eye makeup remover or a gentle babywipe.
  • Hi rachruby yes I think my eyes are sensitive too. I usually do discard my mascara after a couple of months but think I maybe had it for a bit longer than that. I take my mascara off with the hot cloth cleanser which doesn't seem to irritate them or sometimes use some olive oil.
