thinking about doing Usbourne as a side

Hi,

I've just been sent an email by Usbourne (I think I registered an interest ages ago but felt a bit anxious about the accounting side of it) offering new recruits free membership.

I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there that has good or bad experiences with Usbourne.

thanks
Caz

what is this, is it book sales?

You might want to ask about this in the "small business " or the "ebay sellers" board - they are a bit more likely to know :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I'm thinking of doing this myself - I saw an ad on mumsnet and the woman sent me the info. if you join before 3rd may there is no joining fee, if you join after 3rd may they charge £1 per day e.g 4th will be £1, 5th £2 etc.

I need to get some extra income - OH is not working at the mo and my wage just about covers the bills. am meant to be paying a DCA in a bit but dont know how to tell them I cant afford the amount they want (will be short of about £40)

from what I can gather with Unsborne so long as you sell £100 worth of stock in the first 12 weeks its ok. most books on their website are around £5 so 20 books in 3 months...

The lady emailed me back after I asked her what I needed to do and she mentioned about having to sell 100 books in 12 weeks.

So I'm not so sure now.

    thanks for you reply

Don't do it if you have children to haul around. I attempted to sell and was completely rubbish. I ended up losing £50 (well, at least I could give some of the books as presents). I had a one and a three year old in tow and it was physically really hard trying to get the books and children into places.
I'm not a sales person and this is about selling and also about recruiting others to sell (that's the only way to make a decent wage from it.) If neither of those things bothers you then it may be a good choice.

    Hi

I have been doing Usborne since last year when I decided to be a sahm Mum to my 2 kids. I had never had any previous experience of selling and I really think the books sell themselves.

I also take my kids to events such as Mums and Tots and I find they help me to sell books rather than hinder me. You can sell to lots of places and at the moment I am focusing on schools.

Yes you do have to do £100 sales in the first 12 weeks but this would cost you less as your commission is deducted straight away. Plus if you do £100 sales in the first 3 weeks you would get an extra £25 of books completely free.

The joining offers in May are fantastic. It started off free yesterday and has gone to £1 today and will increase by £1 each working day. You could get away with getting the kit free today as long as the agreement form is received into the office by tomorrow 5pm.

If you would like more info on how Usborne can work for you please email me and I can email you some more info.

    Kind regards

  • thank you both

I do have a 3 year old and am temporarily car-less. I was just hoping for a side job. I thought of Usbourne because I have friends, colleagues and family with young children and I was just going to try and sell them ad-hoc not really hard and fast selling.

I already do pigsback, surveys, ebaying etc.

    Anyway, thanks

I know some organisers sell the books on ebay so that could be an option especially the ones you would get in your starter kit which would have only cost you a few pounds if you joined in the next few days.

I am thinking of getting my Mum to join so then she can kindly donate the books to me !!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

silly question but after you have sold £100 of books do you get to keep the 'kit'?

    Hi

Yes the kit is yours to keep after you have submitted £100 within the first 12 weeks. They do this so people dont just join up to get the kit at a discounted rate.

The kit is actually £2 today.

It really is a good opportunity to either start your own business or build a library for your family.

If anyone wants anymore info please email me or pm me
