correct method of comping?

Hi all,

Just wondered, I have very recently started comping and basically he way I have been entering is going to the last page of the comps and working my way forward, I am currently on page 100 but I wonder if I am doing it right as if new comps are added every day do they go to page 1 and I keep noticing certain pages that seem to be duplicates?

Sorry if this makes no sense whatsoever just hoped someone could tell me the best strategy

Good luck to all!!! :)) xx

Hi,I'd say that there is not a correct way.

Some do it by newly posted, some by end date & some just randomly enter.

Just do what you feel OK with :-)
  • The most important thing is to use the skip/entered feature of the forum so you know what comps you've entered.

When I started, I didn't and I might have disqualified myself from a few comps because of it.

There are board guides who clear expired comps - they go here, but you may still see a few on the 'live' board - if you spot an expired comp there is a button (top left - I think) you can click to help have it moved off.

There is no right or wrong way to comp - I do an hour or so (ok a couple of hours! lol) a day and I'm up to date (although I have been here 6yrs+) so work from where I left off the previous evening - using the green & red ticks & crosses as reference points. I only enter those I want or can use.

I do miss some, but there are always more coming along!

edit: Just thinking - you may want to sort by date order, to catch the closest ending ones & after (if you have time) start catching up. I took a break for a while & did this when I came back again - eventually I was back up to date.

Another way, which I use sometimes, is to use the "Forum Search" function/button.

For example, you could enter "win a samsung". This will bring up lots of open comps that include these words, e.g. tv's, phones, tablets etc.

Once you've done that, it's a good game to think up all of the brand names you can and enter these as well.

Then you can input things like "win an iphone" etc. Your imagination is the only barrier!

As long as you remember to always tick the "Thanks" button and the tick button at the right hand side , you'll be OK .

You can still start way back as well, it's a question of which you find more fun!

Hiya so just to clarify (sorry) lol if I click the tick on the ones I entered they will be removed and there is no chance of me double entering them similarly if I hit the cross that will be removed also and wont come up anymore?

No - they will still appear on the board, but they will have either a green tick or a red cross in the right hand corner

I always have either of those on the posts I've visited - sometimes if I want to revisit a comp hit 'thanks' but no the tick or cross so I'll know to come back again.

    alsproject means the cross/tick thingy

I find that entering by end date is best. I then check daily what new comps have been posted & enter any that are ending soon, are guessed or a big prize :)

The problem I find with entering as they come in is that some people (through no fault of their own) could give the wrong answer or there may be a problem of some sort like this.

I'm not sure if that's everyone's preference, of course. Just my way of doing it. I win quite a lot too so must be working ;):)

The best 'investment' you could make is by buying (or however) Roboform. That saves hours & hours when comping x
