Can I Find What Assets A Person Has Before Court Action?

I am suing someone who owes me money, I have a no win no fee solicitor prepared to act on my behalf, but beforehand I need to prove they have assets to make suing him worthwhile.
They quoted a company that will check him out, but will cost me around £240, (not included in the no win no fee deal). Does anyone know of a cheaper method?
