This week Dr Christian travels to the most obese town in the USA and finds that some funeral directors are having to cut off the arms of huge dead obese people as they cannot fit them in the oven to cremate them as they are too wide.

Also, a 24 stone scottish woman bursts into tears when shown what a blocked artery looks like.

To be honest, it is a very good clear picture in cross section and really shows you what 'narrowing of the arteries' really means.

Here if you missed it.

  • I always start to watch that program and change chanal after 15 min. But it's really good program but I just can't watch it
  • I find it hard to watch too. It really upsets me seeing skinny people and heavy people cause both are dangerous. I lost a friend to anorexia and it broke my heart.

I personally can't understand how people can't realise they're getting so heavy it's killing them either. Everyone puts a bit of weight on and dieting isn't fun for anyone. I work with a guy who was obese when I started and is worse than ever. He eats pork pies & eccles cakes for breakfast and snacks all day. He falls asleep at his desk too and struggles to walk. It upsets me seeing him suffer but then I see him making it worse and then hear him moaning about his health...I just don't understand :(

I thought this week's one was quite upsetting, what with the larger lady losing her dad from heart problems and then Dr Christian showing her the clogged artery. But both of them did really well when doing the meal swaps and then their new plans.

I dont think that people dont realise they are putting on a lot of weight

i think its very easy to get addicted to things, alcohol, drugs, food, not eating, shopping, hoarding, sugar, coffee, glucose fructose syrup, all sorts of things.

Addiction is not rational, neither are humans.

Heard the saying Economists can come up with rational models that dont work in the real world as humans are not rational?

I personally find it so hard to eat healthy food and very easy to eat unhealthy foods. It makes me psychologically feel better.

I am being very careful to not drink, not smoke despite so many people smoking around me to destress and I really like the smell.

I also smell cannabis and skunk in my building and the cannabis smell is very tempting but i dont want to get addicted so i stay away.

I dont know how long i can keep it all up for though as i see people drink and smoke to destress and relax and i get rather jealous of that.

A growing sector of the economy from my personal experience seems to people wanting cooks, cleaners, people to iron their clothes etc. If i could outsource cooking to someone financially i would, a few people i know have told me they have done just that.
  • You can get addicted to anything - caffeine and sugar are massive culprits.

You can also get addicted to the "buzz" of losing weight and exercising.

Most healthy food doesn't give the body the same instant sugar hit of unhealthy food, which is why it's so hard to pare a diet down to healthiness.

Mind you, I've never understood smoking of any sort - I'd rather exercise - though I do admit to the odd glass of pink fizz :)

  • I watched the show and felt sorry for both of the adult women who done very well especially the larger lady think she lost 21 lb was it and she seemed to look that much happier. In reality, there go I but for the Grace of God...

I have recently taken up a renewed interest in normal every day walking! Invested in decent trainers and a lightweight jacket and I took myself a new route today around my neighbourhood ,off the usual pavement to a walkway through a park and it was so tranquil.

I also had YOUNG music on if you get me, the music people in nighclubs dance to, I suggest Girls On Top 2012 album, the fast cheery beat makes you go on when you feel weary and songs are upbeat.

I get home out of breath and have a shower but feel exhilarated that Ive walked for 2 miles as I dont do gyms!

Putting on weight and not realising it can happen. I don't know how I went from 10 stone to 11 stone! I don't remember that transition. But I know now I need to lose weight and can't put on any more. Still doesn't make it easy to diet though!

I do like watching the programme and it is hard to believe how people get to 20 stone.
  • With most people, we are active as kids and teens and walk and cycle everywhere with friends. Then we leave school, lose touch with pals, learn to drive, or spend time unemployed or as a housewife, or have a minor accident that immobilises and isolates us, or even having a baby and not losing the extra weight, could be you have moved house to new area and being crippled by shyness. Having too large a portion , snacking without realising the fat in an item etc.

There is always a set of circumstances leading to a gradual weight gain sometimes you do not even realise , inactiveness ,ageing and slowing metabolism, comfort eating snacks in front of telly and driving instead of cycling and walking . Far too easy to gain weight without consciously trying.

Once its on, it doesnt want to come off though! grrr
