And Ive never seen it before
A mate was made bankrupt in 2009
He has just requested his NI records (hes been self employed) to check his pension contributions, etc and HMRC have advised him he owes for 2007 and 2008 (i.e. pre-BR) about £600 each year (Class 2), I know he earned sod all due to illness in those years, in fact thats why he went BR, he was ill but wouldnt pack up.
can he have the amounts credited or written off due to his BR, im nout sure he has his accounts and receipts for work after this amount of time.

I think what there possibly saying is not that he owes them this money, but has he was not working he didn't make contributions these years hence wont get his full number of years in before retirement for his pension. What there offering is not for him to pay it as a debt, but to pay this money to make up his pension to get his full contributions. I got wrote to by HMRC a few years back about the same thing when I was out of work due to study, not asking for the money as a debt but offering me the opertunity to make up my contributions. Thats what this sounds like to me.0
