I've got a gas tumble dryer which is very economical and my gas fire was bought with heat output and economy in mind. We have gone manic with insulation in our new extension and my husband is putting in LED lights everywhere.
There are cheap cuts of meat in the freezer and bulk purchases from Costco. Some days you will find me with bread dough in the food processor. I don't use a breadmaker. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Right now -
- Fleeces on back of settee, for snuggling.
- Candles lit, to save putting lights on while I am on computer
- Curtains firmly drawn an hour ago to keep heat in
- Flask next to kettle for next cup of tea
- yellow sticker bread buns defrosting to have for tea
- old christmas cards next to computer to use as shopping lists

Can I urge you not to put fat balls out in bags, some birds have been reported to be getting their tongues stuck in the nets and.......well, you can imagine the rest."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
You'd slip in past the h.m. cream curtain on the front door, made with the cover from a salvaged wood-frame and cloth wardrobe wombled from an alley.
If you looked carefully under the linens in the hall cupboard you'd see where the frame went too (slatted shelves). You'd notice the unwrapped bars of soap among the linens, plus the sides-to-middled sheets and the patchwork quilt made from old dress fabrics.
You'd see the clear poly bag of sponge scourers, halved, ready for use, the ragbag and the stash of soda crystals and bicarb under the sink. The fridge would reveal h.m soup and h.m. chili and lots of leftovers and some stuff in packets with yellow label reductions.
There are egg cartons on the side, saved for chitting tatties next month for the allotment.
If you opened the wall cupboards you'd uncover the Pyrex Hoard (partly ancestral) and some artifacts like Grandma's breadboard and pickle pot, both considerably pre WW2.
If you were rash enough to lift the valance on my bed (assuming you hadn't be brained with a wooden rolling pin by this point) you'd wonder why I have so many tinned goods under there.:) You'd also find the slowcooker after a search, and the sewing machine and suspect I am a homebody.
A quick glance at the bookshelf would reveal interests heavily-weighted to matters OS and simple living esp J Seymour et all. There's a small stash of jamjars, a tub of cut up paper for scribble pads and a computer older than Noah's.
The rugs on the floor are handmade by moi from old jumpers and new yaks and some of the furniture is modern carp and some late 19th century country pieces.
All in all, you might suspect that with MSE old style open on the browser at most times the PC is on, that I wend towards the os side of the street. :rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

In my house:
Woodburner with 2 kettles on the top, log basket beside it
Washing on airer (at this time of the year)
Old furniture, some with scars to prove it, but all much nicer and cheaper than equivalent new things
Dresser loaded with blue and white china bought for a tenner the lot from an auction
Big white sink like my gran had (my favourite thing)
Plastic boxes with HM 'ready meals' and leftovers in the freezer
Also home frozen vegetables and berries
A large pack of sausage skins in the bottom of the fridge :rotfl:
Game rack in porch, empty at the moment
Washed out used plastic bags propped up above the drying rack by the sink.0 -
Washing on airer (at this time of the year)
Oh that's the one of the things that HAS caused a raised eyebrow here.
Aga washing drying rack anything from £49 - 129 even on fleabay
Mine...Wooden chopping board down back of rayburn, kettle on top of hot plate cover, cake cooling rack balanced on the kettle and the board....washing airing on top. Free. Job done!
