Should we arrange the transport?...

  • We have 2 wedding cars so a few select will get taken from church to reception- probably just the parents. Everyone else has a 5 minute walk in a straight line to a taxi office in the centre of town and 2 decent size car parks within sight of the church which for a town half of my family grew up in isn't really a hardship. Went to one wedding where everyone was on neighbouring side streets outside people's houses.

  • We are having an evening do only and it is a bit out of the way so decided to put a coach on (plus being a bit of a bridezilla I wanted everyone one there from a certain time). We put on the invites to let us know numbers.

We are having one 41 seater coach doing two pick up's on the way to the venue and a total distance of 17 miles each way. It has cost £225.

I would really recomend getting as many quotes as you can, we found there was quite a difference between the top and bottom prices.

I wasn't going to originally but now I have changed my mind. I just think it will be easier to arrange it myself then they are all there on time and we aren't waiting around for people.

Plus it means everyone can have a drink and be more relaxed. The first quote i've had back for 32 people is £300 return so think that is good

    We seriously considered this BUT........

Where do you get everyone from and deliver them back to? Surely everyone lives in different places so they still need to get from there back to their home....or you pick up and drop off everyone individually which means some people are going to be on that bus etc for a long time.

It also means you are dictating the time people arrive and leave, that might work for some but what about those with baby sitters/children or those who wouldn't want to stay all evening?

We just decided that it would be so much hassle that people can either jump in our taxi for the evening reception or make their own way there. It's only a few miles from our home town!

The last wedding I went to there was transport.

Day guests made their own way to the church but then there was a double decker coach put on from the church to the reception venue. The same bus took us home after the reception (all to the same town, obviously, but think there may have been a couple of drop off points in our town).

The bus back home at night I guess was just for day people who wouldn't have had their own transport there in the first place, but I think other people jumped on too to get home, which was ok with the bride and groom.
