Ah this one again. Been browsing and come across lots of different things about this.
I took out a contract phone for my cousin (his address, my name) as he wasnt old enough. He stopped paying it and never let me know.
Now lowell have got hold of it and im not sure what to do?
They have put a default on my credit report. I would like to get rid of it but nto sure what to do after reading about the bullies that are lowell. I have spoken to them on the phone once, stupidly (hindsight) but nothing since which was november i think.
What should i do?

Edit: Found things similar but nothing exact as its a bit of an odd case. Also would like to know how to subscribe to this thread?

  • By the way? What are Lowell?
I went to my experian report and noticed they keep viewing my details?
It's showing as 'unrecorded search by Lowell Portfolio'

    They seem horrible.

I suggest you write them a letter - stating what you have said and how it is not in your address..
I read earlier that people who have called them have been treated awfully, but I don't actually know what sort of company they are?
Are they solicitors or a debt chasing company?

so really its your contract, if payments were not made you issue really that needs to be dealt with. Then you would need to get the pays of your relation.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

You guys are quick! I think lowell are just a debt collection agency (they are lowell, red and hamptons).
Sure, but they essentially paid orange for me right?
I dont fancy paying bullies. The one and only phone call i had from them - they were VERY intent on getting money from me and also very rude.
  • They are just a debt collectors and maybe their tactics can be described as bullying but if you signed a contract and there is an outstanding debt against it then on the face of it they are entitled to chase you for repayment and you'll have to pay. .

But i believe thay have bought the debt from orange ergo as far as orange are concerned then it is settled between us? And the original agreement was to pay orange not anyone else?
  • They are allowed to sell on debts and they do. As you signed the agreement, you are responsible.

They would have bought the debt from orange for a reduced price.

Did they default your credit account on Experian or does it still show as Orange/not at all?

Not heard from orange at all. No, actually i rang them and they were VERY reluctant to talk to me saying that it is nothing to do with them now.
Its a lowell default (on noddle).

Im not saying i wont pay it though if there is good reason why i shouldnt then great.
I have read many horror stories where people pay and then are still messed around - pointless.
Some one said to ask if they have the cca and to see if they actually bought the debt or not.
I assume a right to transfer would be different to 'selling' the debt.

Hi, just going to bump this thread and say I have the same situation.

My wife has an old unpaid phone bill bought by Lowell from about 4 years ago and they are writing and calling us for payment. I won't speak to them on the phone - said they have the wrong number - but the debt is definitely legit.

If I am to go about paying this off, what is the best way? They have an online payment form here
    https://www.lowell.co.uk/one-off-payment.aspx

Will this be proof enough if I save and print the page? Maybe pay it and post proof of payment to them with a written request to stop writing?

In this case their own reputation of relentless bullying is actually preventing me from paying at the moment!
