Scam 'Second Chance Offer'

Honestypays wrote: »This is 100% scam!!! I have recently SOLD 2 items on ebay, both auctions ended on Sunday 20th January. 1 winning bidder paid immediately the other paid yesterday. On Tuesday winning bidder from first auction contacted me regarding second chance offer I`d apparently sent them - which I hadn`t. Wednesday an underbidder sent email regarding second chance offer they`d received for the item. In both emails(they were both forwarded to me) they originated from 2 email addresses, first address starts UKash-orders second starts Maradona1975uk, neither of these belong to me. Both of identical information which OP states ie:pay at corner shop, send me voucher number etc. What is more unnerving and worrying is the fact that whoever these scammers are has got to the bidders private information as in both cases THEIR names and addresses were in full on each of the emails, as a private seller on ebay I have never been given this information right up until the order details are passed on. This is not a joke, I contacted ebay who, didn`t want to know because it should be the person who received the email originally who should contact them - disgusting. These scammers have got private details from ebay users. I gave ebay the email addresses in full where these scam emails originated from they should have been acting on it immediately. I won`t be selling on ebay again anytime soon, I`m not going to put mine or anyone elses private information at risk.
Maybe the the scammers have access to the sellers accounts - inlcuding yours!!.

Update - i've now received another of these 'second chance offers' in the same format. Same as Honestypays post, the email to which I should send my UKASH payment is Maradona1975uk at live.co.uk
However, this one was sent to my second Ebay account (I've got two accounts), so different email & Ebay ID . Very worrying as the message contains my home address. So the 'scammer' has my Ebay ID, email and home address.
I know everyone will say "it's your computer, you have a virus/hacked account" Surely if I have been 'hacked' they would do somthing more beneficial (to them) with my details? I can only assume they don't have any passwords.
Anyway, passwords have been changed just to be on the safe side.
Message also forwarded to spoof@ebay0 -

Already changed mine, as soon as this was bought to my attention. What I don`t understand is one underbidder was fourth down the list of bidders, yet they still had his name and address, user ID etc, I thought this asterisk and block the username (which ebay use)was supposed to prevent this happening. They`d managed to get underbidders, usernames, email addresses, home addresses and how much they`d bid. Both times however, there was no postage cost put on the second chance offer, my original auctions both had postage cost inserted. I have emailed all underbidders to tell them not to take up these offers, hopefully that`s enough to put a stop on this from my side. This really needs bringing to peoples attention though as ebay ignoring it just means it`s going to grow and more people will think they`re getting a bargain.0 -

I'm not sure too many would fall for it given that it requires a UKASH payment - - find a shop, buy a voucher, scan it in, email it to maradonna.... very long-winded!0 -

I agree but I do make myself quite un popular by suggesting that people just need to use a bit of common sense. Ebay require sellers to use paypal, therefore anything that suggests ebay allow UKcash is so obviously a scam I really don't think it needs publisizing at all
But then I am of the opinion that McDonalds selling hot coffee and warning on the cups that this 'contains hot coffee' just panders to the general decline in people's ability to think for themselves.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I`ve had an ebay account now for 10 years or so, yes! while I agree in principle that people need to use common sense, there will also always be new users, novices on library computers, and people who just don`t know how ebay works, these emails are worrying not only that the second chance offer has been sent, but that they have so many personal details, if they`ve managed to get all these what haven`t they got? It`s not a paypal problem as underbidders have no access or need to get to paypal, it is most definitely a security issue with ebay itself, but burying their heads is not alerting the less computer savvy folk.0

I fell for this scam, which I feel is not that obvious.
I received the 2nd chance offer earlier this week.
The email looks legit as appears to come from eBay.
I was a bit unsure about paying using the UKASH voucher as never heard of it before so I checked their website and all looked legit.
I then emailed what I thought was the seller "maradona1975uk@live.co.uk" asking to pay on collection as it was a big item, they replied saying I need to pay as instructed with UKASH. So I did I did in the end (£100), I then emailed maradona again to arrange collection, that's when I realised as email bounced. I then emailed seller via eBay website and they knew nothing about it.
Luckily I managed to split the voucher on UKASH into 2 separate vouchers so the original voucher no longer exists and the scammer cannot use it.
Problem is now I a stuck with £100 voucher that I don't need!! And this person also has all my details.
I tried to get in touch with eBay but can't even find a number to ring, I also intend to report it to UK fraud website.
I would say this scam is quite easy to fall for as email appears very legit, and I am no fool.0 -

I am not unsympathetic when people lose their money on these scams, but they are not clever. They rely on a buyer not having read any eBay warning about links in emails, not bothering to log in to their eBay account to see if the SCO shows there, does not realise that eBay insist on PayPal being offered on all items apart from cars, and have not read the accepted payment policy or even checked that eBay allow UKashI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Not allowed on eBay
Sending cash or money orders through instant, point-to-point cash transfer services (that are not banks) such as Western Union or MoneyGram
Paying by 'topping off' a seller's prepaid credit or debit card
I would think Ukash falls into this section, and anyway PayPal cannot be refused so that is a real give away.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi all. I've read countless Ukash scams now & enough is enough. If anyone lives in or near Bristol & has been scammed or Uskammed, then get in touch. BBC are potentially creating a documentary on this growing phenomenon. StopThatNow@hotmail.com. Thnks0
