Making own invitations

Hi All,
I am looking to make a start on my wedding invitations and was wondering if anyone can help me with some ideas of places to buy cheap supplies? I started looking at hobbycraft but not too sure if they will be more expensive with being a 'high street
' name.
Many thanks!

Have you thought about eBay? You can get some great deals on there from UK and international sellers. I got 200 mulbury roses for £7 they came from China but were excellent quality and turned up in about 2 weeks.0

I used http://www.cardsandpockets.com for my pocketfolds, envelopes, belly bands and monograms. I'm not sure if they are the cheapest as postage from the US adds a bit to the cost. However the quality and range of colours is great.
If you want UK based then I've heard good things about http://pdacardandcraft.co.uk although I haven't used them myself.
I ordered the printed stuff from Vistaprint, the invitation, RSVP card, directions card and contact info. If you sign up on their website they email with good deals, lots of free stuff and you just pay the postage. Not sure if the deals are as good as they were cause I only get offered 10 free postcards now when it used to be 100, but that maybe cause I ordered quite a few free ones!
I am very proud of my invitations, not sure how much they ended up costing me, but it is definitely less that the ones I wanted at $6+ each :rotfl:
EDIT: Just worked out that for 75 invitations the cost comes out at £2.12 each, for everything including all postage. (Thats £1.49 for the pocketfold, envelope etc and 0.63 for the printing)
I can post a pic of the stuff I got if you're interested. xxCross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -
I would be interested Skoobie.
I got my DIY pocketfolds from pocketfold invites but if there is something wrong with your order they are a nightmare to return to charging a 30% restocking fee.
I'm just stuck on printing them myself might look at vistaprint to print them for me

I bought everything from ebay and etsy - amazingOfficially Mrs B as of March 2013

Here you go Steph, I've lazily quoted another post I did for someone on the cross stitching thread
If you have any other questions though, just ask
I ordered oversized postcards for the reception invitations and regular postcards for the inserts (RSVP and map) from Vistaprint (50 or 100 free at a time - just pay postage!) and trimmed them slightly to go into wallets . I'd have loved to get these but they are way more expensive so just used the vertical ones turned sideways :money:.

The wallets are stunning, nice thick metallic card and such pretty colours. I also got the monograms, mounts and matching belly bands from there.

This save the date is a free magnet from Vistaprint, 25 free at a time I think so ordered 3 lots.
Will try and get a pic later of the wallet opened out, feel free to PM if you need anymore info

I've heard good things about PDA craft or craft creations if you prefer suppliers in the UK.
There are loads more threads on the wedding board if you need more info.
My invitations have ended up costing about £1 each as opposed to £3-£4 for the ones I would have wanted (from Etsy!)
I'm sure you could do them cheaper than this if required if you did your own printing etc and did away with the pocketfolds.
Is time a factor? My vistaprint orders usually took about 3 weeks, I refused to pay extra for 'express' delivery. Factoring that, and waiting for the free links to come in my emails meant the whole ordering process took a good 4 months plus.
Also if none of the templates on Vistaprint float your boat you can design your own in publisher/photoshop or on a site like weddingchicks.com (loads of lovely stuff on here) and upload to the site, this does cost extra though. And be careful on Vistaprint, it's so easy to get carried away with all of the matching stuff you can get... Banners, folded business cards to use as place cards, t-shirts...
Bunged in that second quote as there are links there to previous threads on MSE

I do some card making and will be doing my own wedding invitations soon.....I use craftcreations.co.uk they are pretty reasonable and do free delivery when you spend £20 xAll you need is less0

I have been shopping around for most items but found hobbycraft to be fairly reasonable for card (getting A4 and printing myself) and embellishments, although found ribbon to be cheaper at a smaller one off craft shop. Quite good as you can buy samples (ie 1 piece of paper) to test to begin with. Good luck. One girl on a mission0

Hiya,
They've already been mentioned but i really really can't rate https://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk enough!!!
After researching the kind of invites I wanted I decided to buy some pocketfolds and wallet styles from PDA in different card textures/colours to see what they were like. Compared to others is bought the quality was fantastic and the price is great!
All in all I managed to buy materials to make 35 (pre cut and folded) and 30 wallet style (pre cut and folded) along with matching paper to print on for less than £50!!! Which works out at about 75p each.
All I bought then was some coloured card and butterflies to stick on and ribbon for the front and that was it!
They offer cheaper prices for the more of an item you buy and have some great freebies too. Often my orders came the next day, brilliantly packaged and they were always happy to help with questions.
Can't rate them high enough!!0 -
Another vote for PDA, got my wallets, inserts and broderie paper from them...here are mine:
The silver at the bottom is all heat embossed and took AGES.
But would I do them again.....NO! They were mega stressful, I changed my mind on the design three times and although they cost less than buying them they took up so much of my time that really they cost me a lot more than if I paid someone else to do them!
Very happily married on 10th April 2013
