Beats by Dre

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in. Apologies if it isn't.

I'm looking to buy some Beats by Dr Dre headphones (Solo HD), usually RRP £169.95.

I've found them for £149.99 at Currys but can't seem to find any cheaper. I want to buy it at a "reputable" outlet - no eBay links please (cue laughter @ currys)

Pleeeeaasseee help meeeeeee?

Inb4 the usual 'just google it' or 'look yourself' - I have, but I'm hoping that you'll help me find the best price.

Thanks in advance!
Adam

  • Hi Adam

OK, I know its not what you want to hear, I had these, the sound was good but they didn't last any longer than regular £10 ones I bought. I do go through them a lot as I use them 5 days a week at the gym / when on the bus. I appreciate me saying that is reallllly annoying and if someone had told me that I would been "yeah, whatever" about it.

If you are still sure you want them I know this sounds odd but it may be worth doing what I do with earphones; buy them at argos and buy the insurance. I NEVER buy insurance for anything else as I think its a swizz in general, but as I know my skull candy will eventually go I know by paying the extra now, that later, within the usual 6 months I will get a straight swap without shelling out more money. On these the insurance will be 27.99 ... I know, I know not great but in the long run, might be worth considering?

Dont waste your time with them! Have a look at Bose headphones! You can get them for £100 and the sound quality is amazing! I have listened to both and are far superior in quality and sound! I had an Audi with Bose Stereo and ou could turn it full blast and be no interference at all!! Very clear sound!!

You can spend more on Bose like £300 but the £100 are just as good!

Thanks juicyjackieb and sam959 - really interesting points of view. I was looking at a few Bose headphones before the Beats ones and I agree they are top quality!

The point about insurance is also a very interesting one - I also had Skull Candys previously that went kaput after 6 months or so of solid use.

OP, I thought I wanted Beats headphones, I had just about enough in vouchers to pick a pair up too, but I thought I'd do my research first.

Go to a few of the audiophile type websites, see the reports by people who live by the music and notice all the minor differences in sound quality between the pairs. After reading just how far down Beats are in terms of sound/music quality and see what pairs are better and then go out and test them (music/electrical shops) the differences really stand out.
Then you read just how much real music people look down on people who have "wasted" (their words!) money on Beats, it really makes you rethink.

It saved me a good £200 anyway- so many other pairs out there!

Make sure also if you do get a pair after doing your research (which I hope your doing as these things aren't cheap ;)) you check out how they look when you wear them, they can look a bit strange if your head is already quite wide or you don't have curly hair to deal with the wide-issue.

...and if you don't have the money for Bose, try Sennheiser, they are quite a bit cheaper and have excellent sound quality.

If you do like the wide-look, try TDK 800s which also clamp your head well so work OK-ish for noise iscolation when listening to music.
