Go Bankrupt Next Month

Hi Guys,

I got my court summons on Saturday to be made bankrupt at the end of February.

Its been 3 years since I have started to get into financial difficulty and there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

One question though, when I am made bankrupt will my bank account be frozen as my wages are due to go in the day after the hearing.

Good luck with your br. Have you opened a br friendly basic bank account? Consider The Co-op or Barclays. This sticky may be helpful:-

I am with Santander at the minute with just a basic bank account. When I opened the bank account I told them I would be going through Bankruptcy and only wanted a basic account.

I am just worried about my wages not getting through at the end of the month.

I am also worried about the Official Reciever, I have heard that they can be a bit 'nasty' sometimes. Has anyone had bad experiences with them?
  • Believe Santander woun't like you as a BR, IMHO would open a co-op cashminder or Barclays bank account and get your wages paid into that, the OR doesn't "freeze" your accounts the banks do this once they are told by the OR you are BR, Santander will freeze it, Co-op and Barclays shouldn't.

The general impression is from posters on here is that the OR and the assistant OR's are nice people, doing a job without judgement and very professional, again IHMO treat them with respect, honesty and don't be evasive and they will be the same with you, don't try to pull the wool over their eyes or they will probably skin you alive then roast you over a BBQ for good measure, they have often been doing the job years and have heard every excuse and lie in the book
every time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.

    Thanks,

I have just emailed a guy I know in my local Barclays Bank to get my account switched.

    Question about my wage;

I work part-time, last year earning £19,500, but my wages are not guaranteed. I get paid £5000 per year to be on call then the rest of my wages vary from call outs to overtime - these call outs and overtime are not guaranteed wages - no call means no money.

My wages from the last 3 years have been dropping £24,000 - £22,000 - £19,500, next year with overtime being cut from my job and call outs dropping I expect to earn £11,000. One month I could earn £300 a month and the next £1,200.

Does the OR only take into account the guaranteed wages?

    Sorry for all the questions.

I had a basic account with Santander (at the time Abbey National) when I went br. They were the first to close my account. They also continue to send me 'bank statements'. I think I had a few pennies in the account at the time of going br. Please proceed with caution.

Make the OR aware of the fact that your wage will vary from month to month depending on the factors you've listed. When I went br they were not interested that much in my overtime hours and oncall hours as these also varied from month to month. I do know however that things to do with ipa are now much stricter than they used to be. There are more knowledgeable forum members e.g. Fermi who may be better ablt to answer your query. Good luck with the process.
