Credit rating issue.....

Hi,
I've had trouble getting credit even though I've got a 3/5 rating on Noddle and never missed a payment on anything ever, and I get a good rating on the moneysavingexpert credit checker.
I've used the free experian and equifax trials over the last couple of years so I signed up to Noddle yesterday.
I see that there are loads of searches last year which I guess must be for car and/or house insurance. I didn't apply for any loans or credits cards as such. When I run a comparison search through a comparison site such as Confused.com is there a credit search?
Also, I wanted to view a car at Fords Of Winsford so they reserved it for 48hrs and to do that they did a credit search and I passed back in October last year. I rejected the car but obviously this search screwed my rating as I haven't been able to get a car elsewhere, car insurance or even my house insurance [only £20 per month] on monthly payments. I doubt I'll be able to renew my phone contract at this rate.
If I get accepted for credit but don't take it up can I remove it from the list? I'm afraid my knowledge here is very limited.
I wanted put an image up showing some of the searches last year in the hope that someone can tell me that nothing untoward is going on but as a new user I can't. Anyway, there were 20 searches made last year against me.
Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Not many ideas.
Are you on electoral role?
Have you moved recently?
Might be worth a more recent equifax and experian report. Can get the statutory £2 ones.:beer:0 -
1. Get your most recent statutory reports from Experian and Equifax (2 pounds each)
2. Make a list of all credit searches (not unrecorded, not inquiries, not identity checks, not quotations) - Equifax categorises them in separate tables and calls the immaterial searches as Other searches, Experian does them all together
3. Challenge credit searches you did not make with the loan company listed and also with Experian / Equifax. Call it identity fraud if it wasnt you who searched for that stuff
4. Check your electoral roll - Dispute with Experian and Equifax by contacting them over email and online help respectively if you are registered but they dont have the data
5. The prime problem may be that you do not have any credit data - get your mobile contract and current account on the report if they are already not on there
6. Otherwise, check the report thouroughly for missed payments etc. this is indicated by 1s or 2s or 3s on experian and by a non-green color on equifax0 -
Also get your free report from CallCredit by signing up to their "Free For Life Credit Report" service.
You should always check your reports from all three CRAs at least annually.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

I'm on the electoral role.
I've lived at the same property for 9 years.
I'll get hold of the statutory reports from Equifax and Experian - hopefully, they'll shed more light than the Noddle report.
All my credit data is on the Noddle report I think - current account, mortgage, credit card etc. All have green marks next to them as I've never missed payments.
Thanks for the replies.0 -
Right, I got my statutory report from Equifax.
There were three proper searches last year - 2 for what I think were car insurance and one for car finance [the Fords Of Winsford thing I mentioned in my first post above]. It says next to the car finance thing "Opt In" but I didn't opt in. Had I opted in it would have been 7k credit. Does the fact that it says "opt in" have any bearing on anything? Shall I try and get this removed or corrected?
Thanks!0 -
Don't worry about the phone contract. If you have been paying regularly then you will not need a credit check to change contract with the same provider. To change provider, get a PAYG sim and make payments for 3-6 months and you can then change to a contract.0
