Disappointed :(

I am so disappointed :(
Been looking to buy a place since 1.5 yrs now....
firstly, we have very specific tastes and so right properties are hard to come by...

I've looked at a flat on zoopla, it ticks all the boxes! It came in the market on Thursday and I saw it on Saturday....tried calling the ea on Saturday at 5pm, but they closed by then. Called them this morning and it's gone! This flat was perfect for us, exactly what we needed and at the right price....It's good value even at full asking price

This happened a cppl of months back too....we found a lovely house at the far end of our budget, I called the next day and it was gone! It's impossible to believe market is so hot! I am looking in bromley btw....

Sad and disappointed

  • Unfortunately you are looking in the London area which as we all know is the only 'hot' area in the UK. Well that and Aberdeen.
  • Not really there is a national shortage of houses (especially 3/4 bed), and despite what the BBC and other doom mongers say there is still a healthy market. What adds to the problem is lack of new builds and when they do build they put apartments up when we need larger properties. Another bug bear is the lack of bungalows being built, again an ageing population but no bungalows have been built around my neck of the woods since the 70's
  • The market can be very strong and also very cool.

My house went on the market at 16:00 on a Friday and we had an offer by 12:00 on Monday.
We offered on a place that had been on the market for 6 months and they rejected, hence we are now building.

It's tough for buyers as there are limited opportunities and the good ones that come along are often snapped up.

What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

Come on howee. You can hardly describe the UK housing market apart from the good ol South East as healthy.

Even those eminent rampers Phil and Kirsty openly admit the market is pants and dysfunctional at the moment.

I work 'in' the housing market (services NOT selling), have done since 2005 and although quieter than back then the market is still there. Folk still die/split up/have kids/downsize etc.

Maybe the big difference I see is the amount of private rents which have gone up to levels never seen in the UK before but that as you know creates another market with landlords swarming for cheap 2 bed terrace properties.

Its the lack of housing (affordable or not), which is holding prices up when we have just seen the biggest recession in living memory. Although I expect the market to bump along at these prices as the economy will for at least 10-12yrs.

Hey it could be worse we might live in Greece, Portugal or Spain where they are looking at living standard reducing by a third!

    I digress :)

Come on shorty. Let's just look at data, shall we? LR YOY figures for example. And let's get that myth of 'London propping up the figures' out of the way once and for all.

South East, East and London properly up.
South West, Midlands and North West broadly flat.

The only areas with falling prices are the North East and Yorkshire & Humber.

Nice to see someone with a positive view of the property market, especially seeing that next month we will be putting our 3 Bed Bungalow on the market and we live on the western edge of Hampshire so we like your comments on the shortages of these properties.

I've worked around agents a long time. When a purchaser is very fussy (few take more than a few months looking), they invariably tend not to be the type to act quickly when the right place does come along.

Ideally you view and offer before anyone else, otherwise you'll be searching years.

I have often heard agents refer to such people as 'wasters' as they seem to have been looking for so long. Just so you're aware.......:o

It's all about playing the odds as far as agents are concerned, and someone looking so long wont present a good statistical bet.

I have to be honest and say I find it hard to get my head around how some people are infinitley more picky than the rest of us.

Bungalows always sell well due to the lack of them so hopefully you will be fine. It is also a good time to go on the market as the busy period starts from around March through to mid July when it drops back off. Simple reasons why, Easter time folk decide to move or redecorate mid July and folk think of the sunny holls.

We live in Bromley and its true houses go like hotcakes, it's quite unbelievable. Can you put an alert on so that any new properties come up you are notified straight away.
