Im involved with an investigation at work.
I've been advised to go to a solicitor and get an affidavit done and signed off by the solicitor.
Im under the impression this is a pro forma type statement and have been quoted £150+VAT to have this prepared.
Then to take it to a different solicitor who will sign it off for £5.
I have seen UK affidavit downloads for under a fiver on line. Could i simply get a download, compile the statement and sign and then pop into a solicitor to counter sign?

Why do you need an affidavit for what I presume is a work investigation?
Firstly, affidavits are written statements that have been sworn and are to be used as evidence in court (not work investigations).
Secondly, in the unlikely event that you need one, you can produce your own affidavit (using a free template available on the internet) or stating your name, address, occupation, your affirmation and statement of fact etc; ending with
..............................................
Signature
SWORN AT ........................................................
this ........day of...............................year............
before me,
..........................................................................
(A Solicitor or Commissioner of Oaths)
Then take it to be sworn and countersigned in the presence of a solicitor.
If you're appearing as a witness in a court for your employer or another party, ask them to pay for the cost of obtaining an affidavit if a witness statement won't do?0 -
Thanks hiccups.
This is on advice.
But what you have said is what I've suspected. It seems that the solicitor will put together the paperwork- all i will require is the signature.
You wouldn't happen to have a link for the format? I've only been able to find payable downloads or foreign links.Projects 2020-

Hi,
I have quoted an example affidavit below from the following website: http://www.compactlaw.co.uk/free-legal-precedents/small-claims-court.htmlIN THE [TOWN] [TYPE OF COURT] CASE No.
BETWEEN
[IVOR PROBLEM] Claimant
AND
[JUSTIN TIME] Defendant
AFFIDAVIT IN SUPPORT OF APPLICATION FOR A CHARGING ORDER
I, Ivor Problem of 8 Lucky Street, Anytown, the above named Claimant, occupation builder, MAKE OATH and say as follows.
1. I make this affidavit in support of my application for a charging order. Save where otherwise appears I make this affidavit from matters within my knowledge, information or belief.
2. On the 31st November 20.... I lent to the Defendant the sum of £900.00 so that he could pay his electricity bill. The Defendant promised to repay this sum to me by the 14th December 1996. I have written and asked him to repay this sum but he has refused. The debt is still owed to me.
3. On the 15th May 20.... I obtained judgment against the Defendant for the sum of £912.40 including interest in the Anytown County Court.
4. I wish to apply for a charging order against the Defendant's property. The Defendant lives at 1 Broccoli Road, Anytown. The property is owned jointly with his wife May Time.
5. A search against the property at H.M. Land Registry reveals that the property is mortgaged to Grabapenny Building Society of 57 Pound Street, Anytown. I do not know how much is owed to the Grabapenny Building Society. There is also a charge in favour of Mr. Frank Ness of 20 Merry Street, Anytown.
6. In the circumstances I ask the court to grant me a charging order.

Alternatively, you could use something like this: http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/downloads/pdf-files/sample-affidavit.pdf

Edit: I have no idea why the link is not being displayed correctly. There's nothing dodgy about the site AFAIK.

replace my questions marks with dots in the link above (hopefully should work)0 -
Firstly, affidavits are written statements that have been sworn and are to be used as evidence in court (not work investigations).
They are not only used in court but also in other circumstances where a statement is required in a formal manor and where a statement in person may not be possible or desirable. For example when applying for recognition of my second nationality I had to make an affidavit over my identity and my parents etc
The cost of the actual affidavit itself is minimal, if a solicitor prepares the statement itself then it will be more costly but this should be either something you can do yourself or your employers should give you a template and you simply insert your statement into it.0
