look under questions about websites for costs
it's free for first year apparently0 -
Use Hostgator to host your website and you can normally get that for a penny for the first month and use either namecheap or godaddy to get the domain. Under no circumstances should you use free hosting, trust me on this it is a really bad idea. As for the site itself I can help you with a reputable contact who could design a site at a reasonable price, PM me if interested. A website that needs to be updated once a month or so will require a bit of money if you use a web developer but if it is built on Wordpress for instance it's a very easy process to learn how to add content and change a few things yourself.
Wordpress is also search engine friendly and it works. You are not necessarily going to be ranking in Google for a while and without work so your site will likely be a glorified business card until you do some marketing.
Hope that helps0 -
If you're going to try putting up the site yourself (Wordpress is really easy to set up - though getting a really nice looking site is harder) then I would recommend using a UK hosting service with decent support. I use Vidahost and have found them really helpful when I had basic/stupid questions. £17 for a year (I think - I use a larger package) for one domain and hosting - this should cover a basic website to start with.0

If setting up a new business it is a good idea to keep costs down - just as any business wants to keep costs down - good business sense.
Also when starting up no matter how good an idea you may feel you have, you want to see if it fly's so to say - so a free web site is a logical start,
As others have said they have adverts some more than others .
You can pick up a .co.uk for around £6 for two years, if you go via topcashback.co.uk and you can get a few pence back - not a major outlay and not absolutely required but does give a more professional image.
Get your self a free website lots around such as wix or weeble - like anything marketing is paramount, getting the word out there to bring traffice or footfall then translating that to sales or business - once happy working and generating income then splash out on url and hosting Servage.co.uk very reasonable and those offering free websites also offer hosting packages - cannot comment on their support but with Servage I have used them and no complaints at all, always prompt and helpful.
This is a site I have thrown together using wix to give you an idea of what can be done these days for free http://whackywoman.wix.com/bywhacky
What ever the op decides on I wish them luck with their ventureI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
