Goats!.....milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter, ice cream

Anyone else out there consuming goat dairy?
Wanted to compare notes.
I can get milk in pretty much all supermarkets except M&S (they used to do it, then suddenly stopped). The prices seem to be much of a muchness with milk.
Yoghurt is a different story....larger Tesco's do a fair range of yoghurt: plain, strawberry, honey and vanilla. But the cost is £2.29 a tub (400g). Most other supermarkets do plain only for the same price, but Asda do plain for only £1.35 (slightly smaller tub at 350g), but it still represents quite a saving.
Cheese....not got round to noting prices, but Waitrose have the widest selection. Other supermarkets tend to just have the standard 1x hard, 1x soft (log) and 1x soft (roule).
Butter I have only found at Waitrose....I think it's £1.69, but even smaller Waitrose stores seem to stock it.
Ice cream....rare as hen's teeth. Some larger Waitrose used to stock Ballybleat ice cream but this was discontinued. Their online shop now shows that another brand is available but it's not stocked at my local store. Not had the chance to check out the big store closest to me.
Anyone else got some input?

May not be the correct post for this thread but I just wanted to say that after learning recently what cows and probably goats go through to produce the milk which we consume - I will never buy animal milk again.
Not meant as a criticism - its just that we hear a lot about chickens and eggs and free range etc but not about cows.
Of course we are free to choose
Hope you dont mind my posting here = it seemed relevant0 -
We buy our goats milk from Waitrose and our goats butter and cream from a local farmers market. I have seen goats milk ice cream in our local health food shop but at a price I wouldnt even consider.
With the above comment regarding care of animals to gain milk - we usually look into the producers of what we consume and have found that St Helens have good standard of animal care, you can look at their website.

I bought goat's milk yoghurt and it was delicious but it contained either modified cornflour or modified maize starch (could be same thing I guess) and I don't want to eat that. But as I say it tastes really good.
I have bought the Cherba log from Lidl lots of times also the Soignon one from ASDA. Ocado does spreadable Soignon goat's cheese for 1.99 I noticed plus their own Ocado mini goat's cheese log 125g 1.35 on offer atm to 23/01/13 2 for £2
If you look on the Waitrose and Ocado websites you'll find loads of goat's cheese, even essential Waitrose stuff.
I buy the Pant Ysgawn Farm organic goat's cheese 100g 1.75 from Ocado or Waitrose now which I really enjoy. Much better than something like Boursin.0 -
According to MySupermarket, St. Helens Farm goats butter is £1.60 at Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose and Ocado.0

Please do not think that i am passing judgement on you or anyone else.
Its just that I looked into why cows are always producing milk. They produce milk to feed their babies just as we do - so how is it that they are producing milk for most of the year and every year? What makes this possible? What happens to their babies?
I would think that the same is true for goats, but I am no expert at all. I am so happy that you looked into their welfare first, it shows you are a true animal lover.
It has been a shock for me I must admitt, I never thought about it really - its almost as if it is expected that cows etc produce milk and thats it - no questions asked - as if it is a natural thing for milk to be available
I havent looked into intensive dairy farming yet. God knows what happens with that.0 -

There is a reason why vegans don't drink cow's milk, and it's the same reason why vegans don't drink goat's milk.
Is it your intention to raise this issue on every thread that mentions milk on MSE?0 -

Yeah, spotted it was £1.60 this afternoon at Waitrose.
I've not seen it in Tesco or Sainsbos but maybe that's just a local thing.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0 -

I was in Waitrose today and looked for this but couldn't find it at mine. I did find two more goat's cheeses at the deli counter though.....another soft one in a giant roll, and a hard, cheddary one in a green wax rind. I'll take a not of the name next time.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0 -
Another option is to see if there are any local producers in your area. If you type your postcode into BigBarn it will list any local to you.
We tried the cheeses by Greens of Glastonbury which were very nice, including a lovely creamy mild sheeps cheese.0 -
Hi Antrobus
Absolutely not, I have no intentions of doing such a thing, why would I ?
Can you please tell me why vegans dont drink goats milk please, I understand now why they dont drink cows milk - or at least I think I do.
I am genuinely interested, it would save me a lot of time.0
