Tax issues online surveys

I am completely new to this and wondering if anyone could help me out.
I have read several threads regarding tax and declaring online survey income and wanted to know who has declared themselves self-employed primarily for online surveys.
I am currently employed part time and really need some extra income and I am still not sure whether it is worse all the hassle or not!
Thankyou for any help

Hi there
I registered as self-employed just for surveys. I do other part-time work but this is paid via PAYE so I registered for self-assessment just to declare survey income. It's really straight forward to do and once it's set up I just keep a spreadsheet of what I receive from survey companies so I can declare this at the end of the year and also make deductions from what I've made for heat/light/running computer/printing costs.0 -
Thankyou for your help. And does the HMRC take your tax owed at the end of each tax year I presume (April)?0

Sometimes they want it paying when you complete self-assessment (by Jan 31st 2013 for tax year 2011/2012), sometimes they will just adjust your tax code and take it back that way. I am not sure how the decision is made.0

Not quite - you PAY the tax you owe to HMRC by a due date (usually end of January) following the end of the tax year concerned.
For the current tax year, 6.4.2012 - 2013, tax will be due in early 2014.0 -
i m also a member of some survey companies. i joined it for some extra cash
but didnt give any tax for my earning as its very low.

Ive received a little over £10 for a few online surveys ive done over the last few months, do i really need to register as self-employed? If so, it hardly seems worth doing the surveys.0
