depressed debts of 6k feel suicidal
nearly30
Any advice appreciated, i am nearly 30 still live with my parents and i owe £6500 approx £2000 on credit card,£2000 catalogue,£1000 overdraft and three more credit cards with £500 on each. the debts have mounted up since i left my £15k job in customer services due to a bad break up and severe depression, i tried to take my own life in 2010, i couldnt even do that right so here i am worse off than ever before.
i could afford to pay my payments back then, but its spiralled out of control since i left the job(i left as it added greatly to my depression, i could no longer cope with the stress of the job)
it was mistake financially, i didnt realise what i was doing. now i have part time cleaning job on min wage i take home about £500 a month. i keep applying for more jobs but have had no luck.
i have had pay day loans to try and meet credit card repayments which has further added to stress i feel pathetic i cant live like this anymore, i have no confidence, because i am a nervous wreck and depressed its halved my job options i wish i was normal. everyday living costs take most of my wages i dont earn enough to pay the minium required for the debts.
what can i do? should i write to the companies and explain? i have no assets and my parents are poor they dont own the house.i have suicidal thoughts i dont know where to turn i feel like whats the point of getting up in the morning. any advice would help thank you

i suffer anxiety and depression and also had to leave my job, and was treated badly. I had miscarriages and they were not very supportive (thankfully I now have a beautiful little girl who is 14wks old and is such a blessing). I am a similar age (31) and ended up rather in debt thanks to a very messy divorce in my mid twenties... Debt is hard but i am getting there. I have a lovely partner and my beautiful daughter, things can and do turn around, sometimes very quickly, dont deny yourself that chance. You can PM me any time. I'll even be your debt buddy if you like perhaps we can encourage each other?Make £10 a day challenge November £125.60/310

Hello and welcome.
Have you been to the doctor and told them about your suicidal thoughts? If not, perhaps it would be a good idea to make an appointment. A referral for counselling may help you tackle things when you feel a bit better.
Do you get on well with your parents? If so, perhaps one of them could go to the appointment with you.
I understand why you may feel down at the moment, but if you are able to continue living with your parents then at least you have a home while you are starting to sort yourself out.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
There is no need to have any kind of thoughts like that....at the end of the day it's only money. You have to stay positive about it. You need to contact ASAP a charity organisation like step change who will help you all the way dealing with your debt....they will ask you what you can afford, they'll contact all your creditors to decide of a suitable Debt Management Plan, they will do all the work for you so you can concentrate on other things in life....you have to tell yourself that you cannot give what you haven't got!0

Go and see the doctor as soon as you can. You should also seek advice from on of the free debt advisers like StepChange, Payplan or National Debtline who will help you decide how to deal with your debts. There will be a way forward and once you get some help things will start to pick up.
I have anxiety and depression too so know how difficult it can be but you can get through it.Allypops

The good news is that you have made the right choice in seeking advice on these forums. I too have mental health support needs and require hospital treatment every so often (can also have suicidal ideation as one of the symptoms). It is possible to find solutions for all problems if you look in the right places and work in partnership with those offering guidance, advocacy, treatment and support. Both your health and finances can be managed effectively so that you can move forward and have a great quality of life!!!
Here is a list of the right agencies to go for for independent debt counselling (and it is all free)
Here is a link to a booklet produced by MSE in partnership with Mind, Rethink, CAPUK and others, for people with mental health problems and those caring for them. It covers how to handle debts when unwell, work with banks, free debt counselling, specific tips for bipolar disorder or depression sufferers, whether to declare a condition and more. It also covers treatment options for your health. It is in a PDF format.
If you feel particularly and at risk, don't be afraid to dial 999 and request an ambulance to remove you from risk of harm.
MIND offer confidential advice services and support in most regions and you can visit their website by clicking here
And clicking here will take you to the MSE thread where trained advisors from StepChange Debt Charity (formerly CCCS) are waiting to answer your debt questions.
If you read through some of the threads here you will find evidence of how many people are successful at solving their debt problems. I am one of them (before I joined MSE though) and I had to do it whilst learning how to manage my mental health.
Great to have you on board!I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0
