westcott sky

hi can anyone help
in dec when i had my lbm i rang sky and asked them to cancel my package the girl told me it had been done but in jan and feb they again took the full payment. so i cancelled the dd so they couldnt take any more money and rang them again and was told that no one had cancelled it. so i agreed to drop to the 15.00 package to avoid getting a big bill again the guy told me i could cancel this after a month. which i was happy with then 5 days after this sky cut all the channels off but still send me a bill for £39.00. i rang again to query it and was told notes would be put on and i would be sent a revised bill for £15 which i was happy with.i also sent a letter to sky complaining which was never acknowledged and they again sent me this bill for £39 and said if i didnt contact them or pay they would send it a debt collection agency. so i again rang them and was told by the guy who answered the phone or yes we can charge you for a service you have never had its in the terms and conditions on the back of all the letters from us (it isnt these terms and conditions are only on the letter threating me with a dca)
so i again sent a complaint letter disputing this bill (i sent it recorded delivery this time) yet on sat i receieved a letter from westcott saying sky had turned it over to them and i had 7 days from date of letter to pay it letter is dated 24.04.07 yet wasnt posted till 27.04.07 which means i got letter sat but there 7 days runs out on mon which is wrong.
right sorry for essay my question is as i am disbuting the bill with sky do i have to pay westcott full amount or can i offer to pay them a small amount till i hear from sky? or better still just not pay it till sky acknowledge my complaint.

A Debt Collection Agency (and for the life of me I can't imagine why a bunch of THUGS, masquerading under the name of Westcot, can claim that title) are NOT allowed to chase a 'debt' which is in dispute.

  • Hi Hunteress,

I too am having problems with SKY. I had the full SKY + package installed in November 06 and after 2 weeks it stopped working. I put this down to bad whether but by mid December it still wasn't working so I phoned to cancel. They arranged for an engineer to come out in January and after taking a day off work they never turned up. I phone up raging and was told that another engineer will come out in 2 weeks and they would credit me with £15 as a good will gesture and I would not need to pay for SKY until it was fixed.

The engineer came out, fixed the dish and low and behold 2 weeks later the signal cut was cut off again. I phoned them on 21st Feb stating that I wanted to cancel and they confirmed that my account would be cancelled as of 21st March. During this time they took 3 months of the full package £43.50 and I had redeemed £50 worth of SKY credit card points to pay my bill.

I was told that I would get the full refund 3 x £43.50 + £15 = £145.50. As I had cancelled my direct debit too they said this would be issued by DD and they would contat me further for my details.

To cut a long story short (well shortish) I am being threatened with court action as of today if I do not pay THEM the outstanding bill of £51 ! This is to pay for the SKY package for the month of March and April. Oh and they still haven't cancelled my account!
  • my advice would be to ring up and cancel again.

This time get the name of the person your are speaking to. Also tell them that if your account is not cancelled then you'll be calling back and asking for their supervisor and for them to be DICIPLINED if it is not done.

    This usually works for me.

Its a good idea to note the time and date of the call too.

I had a similar problem. They even denied getting my cancellation by post in spite of receiving and agreeing they got a cheque in the same envelope. I suspect recorded delivery and copies of all correspondence is the way to go and even then they will argue. Westcott threatened to take me to court and I would have let them, as all my action was by letter and I had dated copies of all the letters and copious notes on all action I had taken. In the end Sky did back down, but only because I realised that the MD was a childhood friend of my kid brother and was overheard by them saying so to my partner while on hold.
They heard enough info to realise I was genuine and ran off to their supervisor with their tail between their legs. I only wish I could help you all do the same.

    Hi all,

    Wondering if I can help.

I work for SKY (someone has to), and I know of the problems that you are having.

I work in the Customer Care Dept and if anyone needs any help cancelling accounts, requesting refunds I would only be too happy to help as in my job I can do more for the customer that say someone on the telephone in Customer Services.

If anyone would like my help please provide me with account no and some details and I will see what I can do.

Well done hunteress. It IS a shame that these people will try everything to ignore the law.

Well done huntress - I have always found with Sky that if you stick to your guns the end up seeing things your way - shame you had to go through all that to get there :)
