  • I try and cook as much as I can from scratch, w are a family of 2 adults 1 5 year old and one baby 10 months and a cat.
Our monthly budget s around £230 a month.
The beginning of the month I buy all the meat from various butchers at around £50 for the month.
Toiletries and cleaning stuff, sometimes from hb, I try n keep an eye out or 4 tins for £1 of beans and chopped toms etc
Tesco/asda I keep to my shopping list/menu plan
This weeks hop only come o £35.
What's eloped is buying all my herbs n spices Tom an Asian market, so I no longer buy sauces etc its saved us a fortune.
To get me started I bought the 100g bags for 59p each and I think I've got nearly everything? I'm not normally stuck when a recipe asks for something.
I've lost weight too and feel healthier.
I have a bm and make. Fresh loaf every other day and my win pizza bases.
I've shocked my mum how much I save money as I'm only 27 and have become very independent her hop is £150 a week for three?

Good luck anyway I hope this helped a little.

Thanks, i havent tried Asian Markets but am open to ideas, might try and find one

I spend £100-£110 ish per week for 5 and 3 cats. I bet I could get it lower but I don't like cooking and we are all quite fussy

thanks BOBS, your situation sounds very similar to ours (ages of your children) i havent tried online shopping yet as am trying to go round getting best offers lol have you found a particular store to be the best? also do they do click and collect? a friend of mine said they tried that (it saves delivery charges)

i prefer online shopping - Tesco only one available in my area ! - I go through all my favourites and add what I need and make sure enough to last complete week - then have a look at final price and work back through again and remove what I dont really need until it comes within budget. Also linked into mysupermarket companion - it comes up when I log into tesco and then I can go into it and see what products I can change to help me save money.

I do pay £4 for delivery but worth it as in the supermarket hard to know what you are spending until through the till. Also no temptation from the end of aisle offers etc. I live a 25 mile round trip to any of the main supermarkets so £4 would be the price of my fuel anyway.

I freeze most veg too so whilst I'm here I grab fresh coriander and parsley 3 bunches for 50p so I wash it chop then freeze it for when I need it.
I've bought the....you can cook Indian food fr. Amazon for 83p and own loaded the knife app on iPhone and iPad so I can view the book, and its got so e pod recipes in it.
We've not had a takeaway for nearly 2 years because I e learnt to cook the things we like, it's been an eye opener to how much you pay compared to the price it costs to make.

Yes it takes time but I love to impress hubby that I can make it and save us a Fortune and put that money to good use.

We had chicken bhuna, saffron rice (saffron essence 59p) spiced potatoes, pittas, popadoms, dips etc when our friends came over and a bottle of wine £2.30 lidl all cheap ingredients etc from Asian supermarket total £10 roughly for it all!!! from a takeaway probably £10 +each plus wine.
