Obvious thing in Falkland would be the Palace there, worth a visit.
Plenty of walks to suit all ages etc.
Depending on what you are after, there is St.Andrews & the down the east coast (Neuk of Fife) also, small towns and fishing villages.
Deep Sea world at North Queensferry might be of interest too ?
Dundee & Perth all within short travelling distance and a visit into Edinburgh (by train I'd say) is not too much longer.
Plenty of things to do as well as enjoy the scenery.

You might consider go carts in Kirkcaldy and paintball at Edzell."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Difficult to answer without knowing what the children like.
Nearby on the A91 there is Binnie Loch nature reserve and further along towards Cupar on the same road there is the Fife Deer centre.
Dundee has the RSS Discovery and polar museum.
Kingskettle just a couple of miles away is home to The Singing Kettle.
A walk up east & west Lomond will keep them out of mischeif for a day.
Lots of scenic drives throughout Fife and plenty of castles and stately homes to be found.0 -
Our visiting children love Fife Animal Park (do not confuse with Deer Centre) where they can see wide selection of animals including meerkats, lemurs, a zebra, etc. There are animal handling sessions, usually in afternoon - highlight of 7 year old's last visit was handling a bearded lizard and a snake. There's also a good cafe and an indoor play centre on site.
Can be expensive, but well worth a visit. Do check opening times as they can be affected by weather or other closures.
